auctions, and it acts as a mediator between the seller and the buyer
safely and explicitly, Its fields are open and different, any person or
institution can use it, in addition to all of this it is present in more
than 31 different countries and is available in almost all languages
of the world and is one of the largest companies working in the field
of e-commerce over the Internet. It has more than 171 million active
users since the beginning of 2018. [1]

1.2 Introduction
EBay is an American multinational e-commerce corporation based
in San Jose. EBay was founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995, and
became a notable success story of the dot-com bubble. EBay is a
multibillion-dollar business with operations in about 32 countries, as
of 2019.
The company manages the eBay website, an online auction and
shopping website in which people and businesses buy and sell a
wide variety of goods and services worldwide. The website is free
to use for buyers, but sellers are charged fees for listing items after
a limited number of free listings, and again when those items are
sold.

In addition to eBay's original auction-style sales, the website has

evolved and expanded to include: instant "Buy It Now" shopping;
shopping by Universal Product Code, ISBN, or other kind of SKU
number (via Half.com, which was shut down in 2017); online
classified advertisements (via Kijiji, or eBay Classifieds); online
event ticket trading (via StubHub); and other services. EBay
previously offered online money transfers as part of its services (via
PayPal, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay from 2002 to
2015). [2]

5
1.3 Importance eBay website at the global level

and goods that are not available in their countries.

EBay supports many languages such as:

English, German, Dutch, French, Simplified Chinese, Italian,

Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese. [3]

2.4 Buying from eBay
2.1 Activity pattern
One of the best examples of a site where facilitates consumer-to-
consumer and business-to-consumer sales through its website is
eBay. EBay is the largest auction site on the web. It makes money
by charging a small flat fee or a commission on each sale, often
called a commission or transaction fee, paid by the seller. The buyer
pays the seller through a payment processor, and then the seller is
in charge of shipping the item to the buyer. [5]

2.2.1 Shopping basket

Figure 2.3 Shopping basket

 Adding items to your basket

To add an item from a fixed price listing to your basket, click
the Add to basket button in the listing. You can see the items in
your basket at any time by clicking the shopping basket icon at
the top of most eBay pages.

 To remove items
Click the remove link next to the item you want to remove. If you
are not ready to pay for an item but do not want to remove it, you
can click the save for later link.

9
 Purchasing items
You can add items from the same or different sellers to your
basket, and check out and pay for all the items in your basket at
once. Each item will show up as a separate purchase with its own
item number and the seller's user ID associated with it, exactly as
it always has in My eBay. If you add multiple items from the same
seller, the seller's items are grouped together in your eBay
shopping basket. [6]

2.2.2 eBay Catalog

 About the eBay Catalog

The eBay Catalog is a structured database containing product

information in the form of "product entries."
In the Catalog, a product entry describes the characteristics
of a manufactured good that is offered and sold on eBay. The
entry holds factual information about the product, including
attributes and specifications that describe any identical good
or product being offered for sale.

Figure 2.4 Catalog

10
Figure 2.5 Catalog

 Catalog entries vs. seller item descriptions

A product entry in the eBay Catalog acts as a fact sheet on the
product; it describes a product as it is produced by the
manufacturer. This is different than the descriptions of the
item that an individual seller offers for sale. Sellers add sales
details to the Catalog product descriptions to create their
personalized item listings.

A Catalog entry describes a product as it is offered by the

manufacturer and the product information in the Catalog is
used by all sellers who link their items to the Catalog entry.
Product entries include product aspects, photos that can be
used as the default (or stock) product photos, and general
product descriptions.

11
The details in a seller's item listing, on the other hand, contain
the details specific to the individual items being offered for
sale. Sellers supply their own listing titles and item
descriptions, images (where appropriate), and other seller-
specific information (such as price, condition, shipping terms,
and so on). The table below gives more details. [7]

2.2.3 Search for products

Whether you are browsing, looking for a specific item, or trying to
track down a seller you bought from in the past, we have tools to
help.

The quickest way to search on eBay is by using our search bar at

the top of most pages. Type in what you are looking for, hit Search,
and we will find the items that best match your search.
You can also select filters on the left-hand side of the search results
page to find listings with free shipping, items available for local
pickup, or items in a specific location.

12
Have a look at the articles below to find out more about the different
ways you can search on eBay and how to keep track of items once
you find them.

 Advanced search

Find a specific item, category, or eBay Store quickly and easily

by using Advanced search.

 Saved searches

If you regularly search for the same types of items on eBay,

save time by creating saved searches.

 Your Watch list

Find out how to use your watch list to keep track of up to 300
items that you’re interested in but aren’t quite ready to bid on
or buy. [8]

13
2.3 Ways to sell on eBay

2.3.1 Selling by auction:

You own used goods and want to resell them again, so here you will
participate in the auction.

And you have to specify a certain time for this auction, at its end, to
be sold, to the last buyer who had registered in this auction and to
impose the largest price offered in it.

This method is very useful for used goods as it will always give you
a higher price than you expect, because the spirit of competition
among people, even if they do not realize it well, will make them
refuse to have others get the product they want, so they will always
increase the price, but the price of this used good will not reach All
conditions ome to their true price when new.

Figure 2.8 Search for Selling by auction

14
Figure 2.9 Selling by auction

2.3.2 Direct sale:

This method is useful in the case of selling new goods, as you will
impose the price of the item while determining your profit margin,
of course, after deducting commissions that are taken from you,
whether on shipping or from eBay, or even from PayPal itself.

You are the main controller here in the amount of profit that you
want to obtain, and on the impact of that buyer who wants your
commodity, he will buy it at the price that you set for it.
4

Figure 2.10 Direct sale

15
Here are some tips for getting a satisfying eBay selling
experience:

 Do not ship the product until it has received its value

By using PayPal with eBay, users can save their money in an
escrow account after the sale. I advise everyone who sells to
use this method or not to ship the product until after obtaining
the full price and clearing the check.

 Do not let the buyer contact you via email

EBay has an internal messaging system; so there is no need
to use your email address to talk to the buyer, and very often,
the buyer contacts the seller with a request to purchase a
product outside of the eBay system or to speak directly
outside the eBay platform.

 Monitor transactions in your account

If you use the eBay and PayPal systems, you can view
transactions on both platforms and receive alerts if
suspicious transactions occur

 Be wary of phishing. PayPal and eBay both play important

roles in the payment and e-commerce space respectively; So
most of them both fall under the light of phishing campaigns. 4
[9]
2.4 Buying from eBay

EBay was the founding website for the idea of online buying among
16
users. You can buy almost anything on the website, and what you
want to buy on eBay is not the property of a particular company.

Here are some tips for a satisfying eBay buying experience:

 Do not buy contraband. Make sure that the commodity is

allowed to be traded inside your country, and that it will not
cause you any problems with the local authorities, some Arab
countries impose significant restrictions on goods imported
from abroad, and add a large list of prohibitions that cannot
be entered into the country.
 Choose highly rated sellers. And those who have completed
many successful purchases, new sellers or those who do not
have a good assessment of the risk of doing business with
them, especially if they offer products at very low prices.
 Beware of counterfeit goods. Many people who go to eBay
seek to conclude a deal on the site, whether it is to buy a new
or used product, there is one thing that you should always do,
which is to read the product description before making the
purchase, and if there is any question for you about the
product, ask the seller via Listings available on the site.
Sometimes the seller puts obstacles in front of you so that it
is impossible for you to know that the product is fake -
pictures may be misleading.

17
 Do not trust anyone; Be fixed. Along with the previous advice,
you can always see how good a seller is by clicking on their
profile and reading the latest comments. I tend to follow the
rule of thumb, so if a product appears to be too good for its
price or if its retail price is too high, this product should be
disregarded.

 Search for yourself. If you're buying a vintage product or

souvenir you will really need to do your homework. Check the
current prices for these products at major auction companies
or collectibles.
 Read the item description. To make sure you get exactly what
you want to get, otherwise you will have to accept it if you
discover after it arrives that it is not what you want.
 Make sure to thoroughly inspect the item after purchasing. If
you discover that it does not match the description or contain
some defects, request to return the item and get your money.
 Make sure the seller is ready to ship the item to your country.
Also, make sure that shipping costs are included in or outside
the price of the item. [10]

18
CHAPTER 3: Values and policies
3.1 EBAY values and policies
3.2 Payment methods policy
3.2 Security and privacy
3.3 Non-functional requirements
3.1 EBAY values and policies
EBay return and exchange policy

 Can I return items that l've decided I don't want or need?

You may request to return an item in the condition it was
received if you change your mind. Depending on the seller’s
stated return policy at the time of purchase, your refund may be
reduced by restocking fees or return shipping costs.

 How do I return an item?

a. To start a return, find the item in the purchase history section
of my eBay. Select return this item.
b. Select the reason for the return. You will see your anticipated
refund amount.
c. The seller is notified of your return request and will send you
a return shipping label if they are paying for the return. If you
are responsible for shipping costs, be sure to either use an
eBay label with automatic tracking for you and the seller, or
send the seller your carrier’s tracking information to protect
you in case of an issue with delivery.
d. Next, pack the item carefully. Include the packing slip, affix the
shipping label, and send the item back to the seller within five
business days of starting the return in My eBay. You can drop
the package off at the post office or schedule a pickup with
the US Postal Service or designated carrier.
e. Tracking your return package:

20
o If the seller is paying for return shipping and the return is
being handled through the standard returns process on
eBay, you’ll automatically receive tracking information. If
it’s not handled through eBay, or if you are responsible for
return shipping, you need to send tracking information to
the seller to protect yourself if there’s an issue with
shipping/delivery. If you have an international return, you
should communicate directly with the seller about return
shipping and tracking.
o Once you've shipped your package back to the seller, you
can track the status of the returned item in the Purchase
History section of My eBay when it's being handled through
the regular eBay returns process. The seller should issue
your refund within six business days after the return item
shows "delivered" in the tracking info. If you've not received
your refund after 6 business days, send the seller a
message to discuss.

 Who pays for return shipping?

It depends on the reason for the return and the seller's return policy.
In most cases, sellers designate that the buyer will pay for return
shipping and any restocking fees if specified in their return policy.
Some sellers offer free return shipping. If the item is damaged or
not as described, sellers must cover return shipping costs. When
you're responsible for return shipping charges, we'll charge your
PayPal account if the item is shipped with an eBay label.

21
 When will I receive my refund?
In most cases, the seller will issue your refund within six business
days after receiving the returned item.

 What if the seller does not give me a refund?

If you haven't received a refund six business days after the item
tracking shows the item delivered back to the seller, contact the
seller directly or use the "Ask the seller a question" feature next to
the item in your purchase history. If you can't resolve the issue with
the seller, you can ask eBay to step in and help.

 Can I return an item if l've used it?

You must return an item in the same condition as it was received.
You must also include, in the same condition as it was received:

o All packaging such as boxes, bags, and tags

o Accessories such as cords and remotes
o Certificates, manuals, and warranty cards
o "Free gifts" or bonus items
o All items included in a bundle

 What if missed the seller's return timeframe?

If it's too late to start a return, it's up to the seller to decide whether
or not he or she will accept a late return. Contact the seller for more
information.

22
 What if I started a return on time but did not ship the item
on time?
If five business days have passed since you started a return and you
have not sent the item back to the seller yet, contact the seller to
see whether he or she is still willing to accept your return.

 What if I want to exchange the item?

Exchanges are not supported on eBay.com at this time, but you can
ask the seller via My eBay to see if the seller may be willing to make
an exchange instead of a refund. For example, if you ordered a
men’s blue shirt, size large, but you want a men’s blue shirt, size
medium, ask the seller if he or she will do a direct exchange.

 I received my item and need a replacement. What should I

do?
A replacement is an item that is exactly the same as the original
item was described in the listing. For example, if you ordered a
men’s blue shirt, size large and there is a flaw or problem, and you
want an identical item—men’s blue shirt, size large—that would
count as a replacement. When the seller has specified in his or her
listing that he or she offers replacements and you’d rather receive a
replacement than a refund, you can request one the same way you
would a refund through My eBay. Ship the original item back to the
seller within five business days of requesting the replacement. The
seller will also ship the replacement item within five business days
of receiving your item.

4
23
 I see an item from an international seller that I want to
purchase. What if need to return it?
International returns cannot be fully handled through the standard
eBay returns process at this time. It's best to contact the seller
directly if you have any questions about their return policy.

 Can I contact the seller first before returning the item?

The easiest way to initiate a return is through My eBay in purchased
items. However, you can contact the seller with any questions or if
you are unsure of making the return.

 Can I return more than one item in a single return?

You may only return multiple items if you purchased a multi-quantity
item from the same transaction. If not, then you must initiate a
return for each item individually.

3.2 Payment methods policy

Only payment methods offered at eBay checkout are allowed.
To help provide a safe experience, we only allow payment methods
that offer strong protection for buyers and sellers.

What is the policy?

The following payment methods are not allowed, including:

 Sending cash through the mail

 Point-to-point cash transfer services such as Western Union

or MoneyGram

24
Direct contact information can only be exchanged after eBay
checkout is complete. This includes asking buyers to get in touch
with details of alternative payment methods.

The following payment methods, which are offered at eBay

checkout, are allowed:

 PayPal

 PayPal Credit

 Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's

Internet merchant account

 Payment upon pickup

o Payment upon pickup must offer one of the approved
electronic payment methods. Listings may include the
statement: "Contact me for payment methods to pay on
pickup."
Listings in one of our approved categories may offer the following
additional payment options:

 Bank-to-bank transfers (also known as bank wire transfers

and bank cash transfers)

 Checks

 Money orders

 Online payment services (for example, Allpay.net, CertaPay,

Fiserv, Nochex.com, XOOM). [11]

25
3.3 Security and privacy
a. Security: Refers to how your personal information is
protected. Some people consider privacy and security to be
two terms under the same concept. This is because both
concepts sometimes overlap in an interconnected world. But
they are different, and knowing this difference may help you
protect yourself in an increasingly connected world where
security breaches have unfortunately become very common.

b. Privacy: Relates to what rights you have to control your

personal information and how it is used. Remember these
privacy policies that you are required to read and agree to
when downloading new applications on smartphones.

 Data protection officer and contact

We have appointed data protection officers in several countries
to oversee the protection of your personal data. If you have any
questions about this User Privacy Notice or about data
protection at eBay in general, you can contact the data protection
officer responsible for your country at any time. You will find the
contact details of your data protection officer in the list of our
data protection officers in our eBay Privacy Center.

26
 What personal data we collect and process
We collect your personal data when you use our Services, create
a new eBay account, provide us with information via a web form,
add or update information in your eBay account, participate in
online community discussions or otherwise interact with us. We
also collect personal data from other sources (such as other
eBay Inc. corporate family members, credit agencies or bureaus,
and other data brokers).

 Purposes and legal basis for data processing and

categories of recipients
We process your personal data for various purposes and based
on several different legal bases that allow this processing.
For example, we process your personal data to provide and
improve our Services, to provide you with a personalized user
experience on this website, to contact you about your eBay
account and our Services, to provide customer service, to provide
you with personalized advertising and marketing
communications, and to detect, prevent, mitigate and investigate
fraudulent or illegal activity. We also share your information with
third parties, including service providers acting on our behalf, for
these purposes. In addition, we may share your personal data
among eBay group companies in order to fulfil our contract with
you under the User Agreement and, if applicable, the Payments
Terms of Use.

27
 International data transfers
Some recipients of your personal data are located outside your
country or have offices in countries where data protection laws
may provide a different level of protection than the laws in your
country. When transferring personal data to such recipients, we
provide appropriate safeguards.

 Storage duration and erasure

Your personal data will be stored by us and our service providers
in accordance with applicable data protection laws to the extent
necessary for the processing purposes set out in this User
Privacy Notice

 Data security
We protect your personal data through technical and
organizational security measures to minimize risks associated
with data loss, misuse, unauthorized access and unauthorized
disclosure and alteration. To this end we use firewalls and data
encryption, for example, as well as physical access restrictions
for our data centers and authorization controls for data access.
You can find further information on our data security in
our Security Center. [12]

28
3.4 Non-functional requirements
o Accessibility
o Auditability and control
o Availability
o Backup
o Capacity, current and forecast
o Data integrity
o Data retention

29
CHAPTER 4: CUSTOMER SERVICE
4.1 Customer Service (After Sales)
4.2 Marketing for websites
4.3 eBay advantages
4.1 Customer Service (After Sales)

New safeguards for sellers are built in:

 The streamlined after-sale experience shows buyers the

appropriate help options in my eBay based on where they are
in the after-sales process to help reduce instances where they
may inadvertently cause a defect.
 To help buyers with after-sales support, we are adding an
option in the Contact Seller form that allows buyers to ask you
a question about an item they have purchased or send you a
message after the sale. This option will not be considered a
"request/ case" and will not impact your seller performance
 All buyers requesting returns will now have a more detailed list
of reasons for returning an item—so eBay can determine why
the buyer is requesting a return. [13]

4.2 Marketing for websites

a. Prepare your website to be search engine friendly: SEO is a

set of techniques and strategies aimed at making the site
appear on the first pages of search results, and since
hundreds of millions of users around the world use these
engines to reach their goal, it is very important to be strongly
present on it, as it helps you promote your site, sell your
products and build Your brand
b. Social networks: Social networks are one of the most
important places through which you can gain visitors to your

31
site or sell your products and services, and social media
marketing is considered.
c. E-mail: Some consider that email marketing is more
important than marketing through social networks, because
the user subscribes to your mailing list voluntarily, which
indicates his interest in your messages and your products, but
the difficulty here is in convincing the user to subscribe to your
mailing list, so what drives him to give you his e-mail?

Some tips to increase the number of subscribers to your mailing

list:

 Offer exclusive offers and discounts to mailing list

subscribers
 Do not be annoying and fill in his inbox with your messages, a
weekly or daily message is sufficient (the number of
messages depends on the nature of your site
 Write attractive headlines that encourage the subscriber to
open the message

4.3 eBay advantages

 Ability to sell on site: A large number of eBay visitors are

sellers, unlike most other shopping sites in which all of their
visitors are buyers
 Buying used products: A large number of the products
offered on eBay are used goods, which means that you can
get products at much lower prices than they are new

32
 Safety: EBay is considered one of the most secure shopping
sites, it guarantees the rights of the seller and the buyer, the
only method of payment is PayPal, which is the most secure
payment method, and the seller’s balance remains
suspended for 30 days in anticipation of any fraud.
 Communicate with the seller: Through eBay, you can directly
communicate with the seller, so you can agree with him about
the shipping.

33
Recommendations and future work

 Recommendations
 Provide an approved shipping method through the eBay
website
 Clarify shipping costs

 future work
 Site analysis from all sides

34
Conclusion

In conclusion, I thank God Almighty, and I hope that he will

perpetuate the blessing of knowledge and knowledge, and I hope
that God will guide everyone to what he loves and pleases.
