RATIONALE:

Violence against women (VAW) appears as one of the country’s pervasive social problems and it
is a serious public health concern, according to the National Demographic and Health Survey conducted
by the Philippine Statistics Authority, one in four Filipino women age 15-49 has experienced physical,
emotional or sexual violence by their husband or partner. Physical violence can include slaps, shoves,
hits, punches, pushes, being thrown down stairs or across the room, kicking, twisting of arms, choking,
and being burnt or stabbed. Psychological and emotional abuse can include a range of controlling
behaviors such as control of finances, isolation from family and friends, continual humiliation, threats
against children or being threatened with injury or death. Sexual violence can include rape, sexual
assault with implements, being forced to watch or engage in pornography, enforced prostitution, and
being made to have sex with friends of the perpetrator. Although violence is threat to everyone, women
are particularly susceptible to victimization because they often have fewer rights or lack appropriate
means of protection.

I choose this societal problem because our barangay kasanyangan is dealing with a lot of societal
problems like this, and some of the women here are being abused or violently assaulted by their
husbands or partners. This program will benefit the women, as well as raising awareness about violence
against women. They will understand and become empowered because of their participation. This
program will educate audiences on violence against women and assist women who have experienced
abuse or assault. They are invited to go on their convenient time on weekend and the allotted time is
sufficient for the program, I formally scheduled the dates for February 11 and 12 from 1-2pm on
Saturday and Sunday.
