(ii) A certain mass of ice at 0℃ is converted to steam at 100℃ by constant

(i) A uniform metre rule can be balanced at 70 cm mark when a mass of
0.05 kg is hung from 94 cm mark.
(a) Draw a diagram of the arrangement.
(b) Find the mass of the metre rule. [3]

(ii) State the energy changes in the following cases while in use:
(a) washing machine
(b) a glowing bulb
(c) a petrol engine of a running car. [3]

(iii) A ball of mass 10 g falls from a height of 5 m. It rebounds from the


ground to a height of 4 m. Find:
(a) the initial potential energy of the ball.
(b) the kinetic energy of the ball after striking the ground.
(c) kinetic energy of the ball just before striking the ground.
(d) the loss in kinetic energy. [4]

(i) (a) Find the power of a concave lens of focal length 20 cm.
(b) How does the power change on reducing the focal length ? [3]

(ii) Draw a diagram of a right angled isosceles prism which is used to make
an inverted image erect. [3]

(iii) A lens forms an image of an object placed at a distance of 45 cm from it


on a screen placed at a distance of 90 cm on the other side of it.
(a) Name the kind of lens.
(b) Find the focal length of the lens and
(c) Linear magnification of the lens. [4]

(i) The diagram below shows a block and tackle system:
(a) Copy and redraw the labeled diagram showing the correct
connections of tackle, direction of the forces involved to obtain
the maximum V.R. and convenient direction.
(b) Calculate the M.A. of this pulley system if its efficiency is
60%. [3]

(ii) A block and tackle system has 5 pulleys. If an effort of 1000 N


is needed in downward direction to raise a load of 4500 N, calculate:
(a) the mechanical advantage.
(b) the velocity ratio and
(c) the efficiency of the system. [3]

(iii) The relation between potential difference and current in a circuit is


stated in the form of a law.

(iii) A man standing in front of a vertical cliff, fires a gun. He hears the echo
after 3s. On moving close to the cliff by 82.5m, he fires again and hears the

(c) Explain loudness of sound is subjective property and intensity of sound is

(ii) The given diagram shows a radioactive source S in a thick


lead walled container having a narrow opening. The radiation
passes through an electric field between the plated A & B.

(b) Why is the source S kept in a thick lead walled container
with a narrow opening ? [3]

(iii) Three resistors 8 Ω, 12 Ω and 6 Ω are


connected to a 12 V battery as shown in figure.
Find:
(a) the current through the 8 Ω resistor.
(b) the potential difference across the parallel
combination of 6 Ω and 12 Ω resistors.

(i) (a) State the principle of calorimetry.
(b) Why the base of a cooking pan are made thick ? [3]

(ii) A substance is in the form of a solid at 0℃.


The amount of heat added to this substance and
the temperature of the substance are plotted on
the following graph. If the specific heat capacity
of the solid substance is 500 J kg – 1 ℃ - 1. Find
from the graph:
(a) the mass of the substance.
(b) the specific latent heat of fusion of the substance in the liquid state. [3]

(iii) (a) State Flemming’s left hand rule.


(b) Name three factors on which magnitude of forces on a current carrying
conductor placed in a magnetic field depends and state how does the force
depends on the factors stated by you. [4]
