Background—South Africa Regenerated
Stelios Tzesos, became Gen Mgr. for Colgate Africa Jan. 1992 and ask me to bring a Regenerative

Paradigm Education initiative- a way of thinking, being and acting (CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE)

SO AFRICA was at war with itself. Violence and chaos was epidemic. Stelios offered a compelling Aim

Results From over 3.5 years
Colgate SA. revenues growth 35% per annum across the board with some units achieving 65%+, for
over five years during the transition. Just so you know if it Good For Business.

No lay offs nor demotion and only one manager left.

There was zero violence across all Colgate facilities, the only company in South Africa to achieve
this outcome.

Black African saw an average income increased over 3 X the initial average. White Africans stayed
constant with no loss of status or income. BASED ON PROMISES BEYOND ABLENESS, NON-
COMPETITIVE HIERACHIES

Five Premise of The Regenerative
Business
1. Activating Authority—Intrinsic Development and self- initiated Expression fosters Self-Determining
Intelligence. Stopped: Externally determined and projected expectations and evaluation. Self-Initiated also
fosters loss of personal accountability and (Internal Locus of Control vs External Locus of Control)
INITIATION/IMPLEMENATION/EVALUATION. W/O EXTERNAL.
2. Measures Reference— Externally considering, contributing and benefit assessment is the design and
reconciling source and reference for all business activity. Stop: Internal references and sourcing as primary
focus promotes self-referentially experience as attention to effects on self/or, not beneficiaries. ( Go from
From Internal to External Considering )Link each worker directly to consumer or customer
3. Operating Approach—: Supervisors become Re-Sources. Work enabling personal agency in Value-adding
Processes and the development and expression of Personal Agency. Stop: No Restructure of hierarchies.
4. Design Criteria—Work Design is created with non-competitive hierarchies of development and contribution
(not hierarchy of power over) within which people make promises beyond ableness to specific stakeholders
in the context of regenerative strategic direction by a Core Team for the whole and market field team
oversight. Supervisions/Mgrs become Resources. Nothing like Holarchy. STOP: competition for jobs or pay.
5. Developmental Worldview— Rituals of Development, Thinking to be applied with Natural Work Teams in
Value-adding Processes. 10% of time . ½ -1 day every ten days STOP: training.
