WELCOME!

We´re about to start the third week of the first period.

Keep up the good work! You can do it!

This week, we will review the present perfect simple tense in

interrogative form, including the auxiliary “ever”.

Are you ready?

Session 1
PRESENT PERFECT (definition)
Estimated time: 50 minutes
INTRODUCTION

As we already studied, the present perfect is a time verb tense used to indicate a
link between the present and the past. The time of the action is before now, but it is
not specified. The speaker is often more interested in the result than in the action
itself.

In this unit, we will review this tense, but in the interrogative form, using the
auxiliary “ever”.

Let´s begin!
T
DEFINITION

Present perfect tense is

Referred to a state or action that either happened at an indefinite time
in the past (e.g., we have talked before) or

Began in the past and continued to the present time.

Example: She has worked hard since last week.

This tense is formed by have/has + the past participle.

T
Present perfect tense is also used to describe…
●  An action performed during a period of time that has not
finished yet.
•  Example: He has cooked dinner three times in this month.
●  A situation or action that started in the past and continues in the
present.
•  Example: My best friend has lived in Queretaro since 2012.
●  A repeated action that takes place between the past and now.
•  Example: I have visited Rome two times in my life.
●  An action completed in the recent past, expressed with “just”.
•  Example: I have just finished my job.

●  An action which time is not relevant.

•  Example: She has read “Crime and Punishment”.
Session 2
PRESENT PERFECT (structure)
Estimated time: 50 minutes
FORMING PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
The present perfect of a verb is formed by two elements: the form of the auxiliary verb "to
have"(present tense), plus the past participle of the main verb. For regular verbs, it is
used the past participle (base+ed). Ex. finished, started, filled. For irregular verbs, rules should be
followed.
The structure for the affirmative form of the present perfect tense is:

Fig. 1. Present perfect (affirmative form).

For the negative form, the structure is as follows:

Fig 2. Present perfect (negative form).

EXAMPLES OF THE AFFIRMATIVE AND NEGATIVE FORMS

AFFIRMATIVE FORM
She has passed the History exam.
They have eaten sushi before.
You have talked to them in the car.

NEGATIVE FORM
We have played the violin at the orchestra.
I have had a happy day today.
You have visited Mexico city in the past.
Session 3
PRESENT PERFECT IN INTERROGATIVE
FORM (structure)
Estimated time: 50 minutes
Present perfect is used in the interrogative form, in order to ask questions.

The structure of the perfect tense, in the interrogative form, is as follows:

Have + subject + past participle + …?

Have/has: Don´t forget the third person of the singular.

Regular past participles: Formed by adding -d or -ed to the base form of the verb
used.
Irregular past participles: According to their own rules.
Example: Have you visited Norma recently?
SHORT ANSWERS FOR PRESENT PERFECT QUESTIONS

Questions in present perfect are followed by short answers (yes/no) and the verb

WH-QUESTIONS IN PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
These kinds of questions require more information in their answers.

•  In negative questions: Hasn't he ever been to Asia?

Haven’t you ever eaten Thai food?

. The present perfect with “ever” is a more specific sentence structure to talk about
something that has or has not happened at any time.
