SPECIAL CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION

 SLIPFORM CONSTRUCTION
• A technique for rapid construction
of tall concrete structures.
• A construction method in which
concrete is poured into a
continuously moving form.
• For core wall in building
construction and also the lift
shafts, stair shafts, towers, etc.
• A self-supported formwork
system that needs a crane during
construction.
• Also known as the slide form
technique.

SLIPFORM CONSTRUCTION
ADVANTAGES
• Careful construction process can
achieve high production rates.
• Doesn't require the crane to
move upwards, minimizing crane
use.
• Provision of a jointless structure.
• A saving of shuttering material
both initially as well as lesser
wastage of shuttering material.
• Scaffolding is not required.
• Very rapid concreting.
• Better finishing of concrete.
• No plastering required.
• Accuracy is more than regular
formwork.
• Strength is more than regular
formwork.
• Save formwork material.
• Economical/reasonable for the
structure above a certain size.
DISADVANTAGES
• The greater time required for
arranging various components of
slip formwork.
• Expert operations and
supervision needed for uniform
movement of the slip form
system.
• Stocking of material on the
construction is difficult.
• Good coordination and site
organization is required.
• Large quantities of equipment
needed.
• Labor force may require familiar
with equipment and methods.
• High initial expense.
• Need 24-hour service facilities.
 PRE-TENSIONED CONCRETE
• Putting compressive stress into the member before it is place into services.
• Does not strengthen reinforcement but rather, minimizes deflection.
• It is great to lessen the occurrence of cracks and take reinforced concrete to
its full advantage/potential strength.
COMPONENT USE
Concrete A major component poured into the
prestressing bed after establishing the
tensioned bar.
Reinforced Bars / Steel Rods / Tendon These materials are stretched before
curing to amplify the strength by
tensioning.
Jacks The Jacks locks the bars in place when
tensioned, therefore when concrete is
cured, the jacks can be removed and the
bars will remain intact with its
curve/amplified form.

POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE
• Compression is induced to the concrete by tensioning the steel tendons placed in
ducts.
• Tendons are comprised with strands and bars.
• Strands and tendons are secured with steel wedges.
• Bars and tendons are threaded and anchored by spherical nuts.
COMPONENT USE

Reinforced Bars / Steel Rods / Tendon These materials are stretched after
curing to amplify the strength by
tensioning.
Jacks The Jacks locks the bars in place when
tensioned, therefore when concrete is
cured, the bars will remain intact with its
curve/amplified form.
 Plastic Sleeve / Duct Ducts help the rods to be placed
smoothly in the cured concrete before
applying tensionto the concrete.
