I’m Thinking of Ending Things

INTI: we are what’s inside our minds, expectation vs hope, we are ruined by our own
expectations,

“I’m thinking of ending things. Once this thought arrives, it stays. It sticks, it lingers, it
dominates. There’s not much I can do about it, trust me. It doesn’t go away.”

Charlie Kaufman’s newest film, that is available on Netflix, opens with an overheard
narration from a character later known as The Young Woman (Jessie Buckley), who is
thinking of ending things. And is having a thought that, she believes, dominates her. What
thought, though? What are the things she wants to end? Is it her relationship with Jake (Jesse
Plemons), who seems to bother her? Or is it something bigger that possesses her mind,
making her question her sanity?

So, who is The Young Woman? Nobody knows for sure. She might be Lucy, Louisa,
or neither of those. She might have met Jake at a bar or a restaurant. One time she excellently
made a poem out of a snowy road trip, and the other time she talked about A Woman Under
the Influence like she’s a reincarnation of Pauline Kael.
