WAYS TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE SECURITY

1. Install security software and keep your system up-to-date

▪ Install security software to strengthen your device’s defenses

➢ Basic virus detection and any anti-virus software uses a list to detect
malwares. It can remove and eliminate any malware that matches the list.

▪ Keep your computer and security software updated

➢ For you to have an up-to-date system, you must update the firmware of your
devices

▪ Download software and apps only from a trusted source

➢ Some of the application that you might get includes a virus that has been
attached and spread on your system after installing it

2. Use Complex Passwords and Multi-Factor Authentication
▪ Do not use personal information
➢ Do not use any of your personal information like your name or birthday
because it is very easy for the hacker to know anything about their targets
▪ Do not use real words
➢ There are software and tools that are very effective in helping the attackers
guess your passwords that processes every word in a dictionary plus letter
and number combinations.
▪ Generate a longer password
➢ Login passwords always should be at least a minimum of 10 characters with a
combination of both letters, numbers and special characters.
▪ Modify and Change easy-to-remember phrases
➢ One tip to make your password more complex is to think of a passphrase.

2. Use Complex Passwords and Multi-Factor Authentication (Continuation)
▪ Don’t write them down
➢ You will be tempted to just hide it under your desk. You can just use a tool
called password manager that keeps all of your username and password in an
encrypted form.
▪ Change passwords on a regular basis
➢ Using the same password for a longer time will make your information at risk
▪ Use a different password on different accounts
➢ Once your password is hacked, the more you are at risk because your other
account could also be compromised since you are just using the same
passwords for all of your accounts
▪ Use two-factor authentication
➢ This is a way of verifying your identity and add another layer of security to
your account password

3. Do not actively share your passwords
Sharing passwords with your friend will put you on risk. In any institutions,
borrowing and sharing of accounts is strictly prohibited. They can access any of your
file and use it in a bad way.
