GMAT Syllabus 2017: Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) designs the GMAT 2017 syllabus which
consists of a wide range of topics covered under four sections. The four sections of GMAT are: Analytical Writing
Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The GMAT exam duration is three and half hours. The
candidates are also given two breaks of 10 minutes each between the exams. Candidates are scored on a scale of 200–
800 in GMAT 2017 exam. However, only Verbal and Quantitative GMAT scores impact the total score of 200–800. For
the analytical writing section, test takers are scaled on a 0–6 range as per the GMAT score 2017 and Integrated
reasoning is scaled on a range of 1–8. If you are appearing for the GMAT 2017, it is imperative for you to first know
about the GMAT syllabus 2017 and exam pattern. Following are the details of GMAT 2017 Exam pattern.

The GMAT syllabus 2017 has the following four sections discussed in detail:

Analytical Writing Assessment: According to the GMAT 2017 syllabus, the Analytical Writing Assessment
measures a candidate’s ability to think critically. During the assessment test, the candidate has to analyse the reason
behind a given argument and write a critique. This section has no set topics.

Integrated Reasoning: The Integrated Reasoning section of the GMAT syllabus 2017 measures the aspirants ability
to evaluate information presented in multiple formats from multiple sources – the skills required to succeed in a
technologically advanced, datadriven world. There are four types of Integrated Reasoning questions which measure
how well the candidates integrate data to solve complex problems. These include:

Graphics Interpretation
This section of GMAT 2017 requires the candidate to interpret a graph and select correct answer option from a drop
down list.

TwoPart Analysis
Candidates have to select one answer from each column to solve a problem with a twopart solution. Possible answers
will be presented on a table with a column for each part.

Table Analysis
In this question, examinees have to sort the table to organise the data to determine whether certain conditions are met.
Each question will have statements with opposing answers (e.g. yes/no, true/false, inferable/not inferable); aspirants
have to select one answer for each statement.

MultiSource Reasoning
These type of questions require the candidates to discern which data they need to answer the question.

Quantitative: The Quantitative section measures the aspirant’s ability to analyse data and draw conclusions using
reasoning skills. The mathematics needed to understand and solve the questions in this section of GMAT is similar to
what is taught in secondary school classes. The Quantitative section contains two types of questions: Problem Solving
and Data Sufficiency. The main topics of this section are as follows:

Arithmetic
Geometry
Elementary Algebra

As per the GMAT syllabus 2017, some of the subtopics include the following but are not limited to this
list:

Sets
Statistics
Fraction
Decimals
Ratio & Proportion
Percentage
Linear Equations
Quadratic Equations
Functions
Coordinate Geometry
Polygons
Permutation & Combination
Numbers
Integers
Average
Angles

Verbal: The Verbal section measures the candidate’s ability to read and understand written material, to evaluate
arguments and to correct written material to comply with standard English. This section tests the candidate's
comprehending skills, grammatical skills and reasoning skills. The question types are as follows:
