RULES OF SOCCER

STARTING OUT
*Each team consists of 11 players.One goalie and 10 outfield players.
*Teams are usually split in formations consisting of defenders,
midfielders, and forwards.

START OF GAME AND DURING PLAY


*At the start of each game or if there is a goal scored, there is a kick-off
from the center circle.
*After kick-off, the ball will be in play until it goes out of bounds or the
referee stops play.
*There are usually two 45-minute halves in a game. This time can vary
for different age groups or regions.

NO HANDS PLEASE
*Even if you know nothing about Soccer, you have an idea that you do
not use your Hands, unless you are the Goalie.
*Hand balls are anything that touches a body part from the inger tips to
the shoulder.

THROW-INS
*A throw-in is taken when the ball Crosses the sideline and leaves the
field.
*Basic rule for a throw-in is to keep both feet on the ground, and throw
the ball with both hands over the Head.
*For teaching purposes, we will practice more than once.
CORNER KICKS AND GOAL KICKS
*A corner kick or goal kick is taken when the ball leaves the field across
the end line.
*If the offensive team kicks it out, it is a goal kick; if the defensive team
kicks it out, it is a corner kick.
*Goal kick is taken from anywhere inside the penalty box, and the
corner kick is taken from the nearest corner.

FOULS

“If it looks like a foul, it probably is!”

• A player can not kick, trip, jump at, charge, strike, push, hold or spit at
an opponent.
• Keep in mind that soccer is a contact sport
•Bumping or shoulder-to-shoulder while competing for a ball is not a
foul, until the Arms or elbow come up.

RED AND YELLOW CARDS


*Punishment for fouls committed.
* Yellow card is almost a warning, you can receive two yellow cards
that are equal to a red
* Red card is ejection, and possible Suspension of next game
* Referee’s can give ‘straight’ red cards if necessary before yellow.

DIRECT KICK OR INDEREICT KICK?

*It is a direct kick if you can score by Directly kicking the ball on goal.
*Indirect kick has to be touched by two people on the same team
before scoring.
*Both types of kicks are taken after a foul has been committed.
