Title: Life After Failing the CPALE: Exploring the Aftermath Stories of CPALE Takers

Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE) has always been one of the
hardest licensure examinations to pass in the Philippines. Passing the CPALE demonstrates one’s
proficiency as it continues to be a challenging requirement for anyone seeking to pursue and enter
the accounting profession. Tens of thousands of people take this exam every year with the goal of
getting a passing score and earning the title of Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Admittedly, the end goal for every Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate is to
become a Certified Public Accountant. However, in order to be admitted into accounting fields,
students are required to complete first the rigorous training at their respective schools and meet
certain core competencies created by the Board of Accountancy (BOA). These competencies
include critical thinking skills, positive attitude towards learning, and other abilities that will
enable graduates to be competent candidates for taking the licensure examination.

To pass the licensure examination is one of the stepping stones to become a professional
accountant and if they cannot pass the standardized exam, they will not earn their title as CPA.
Now, while there are lots of researches that determine the factors affecting the performance of the
accountancy graduates in taking the CPALE or factors associated with success in the Certified
Public Accountant Licensure Examination of the accountancy graduates, there is no actual study
created to discuss the life of examinees after failing the CPALE. Thus, the purpose of this study is
to explore the aftermath stories of CPALE takers after failing the exam. The generalization of this
study would be a great contribution to vast knowledge to everyone. This study can also be used as
reference data in conducting new researches or in testing the validity of other related findings as
well as served as a cross reference that will give a background or an overview on other related
study.
