Chandra Kanthi-LED Street Lights in Andhra Pradesh By TDP

Government

Maintenance of street lights is one of the essential functions of the Gram


Panchayats and most of these street lights are standard bulbs whose maintenance
is costly and a real burden to Gram Panchayats which are lacking any financial
sources for their own to clear the electricity consumption charges. The TDP
Government under the visionary leadership of the former Chief Minister of Andhra
Pradesh Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu initiated a street lights maintenance project
called Chandra Kanthi-LED Street Lights.

In order to provide a cost-effective and long-lasting solution, The then-state Chief


Minister Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP Government in Andhra Pradesh

has taken a policy decision to retrofit all existing conventional Street lights with
Modern, Efficient and Intelligent LED Street lighting systems in all Gram Panchayats
in the State under the “Chandra Kanthi” Project during the 2017-18. For more

The TDP Government in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL)
is supporting this Chandra Kanthi LED project to light up the rural areas in Andhra
Pradesh and the Andhra Pradesh State government under the governance of Shri.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu has welcomed its (EESL)’s initiatives with open arms and
has truly spearheaded the energy efficiency movement not only in the state of AP but
in India also.

The TDP Government under the rule of N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched the
Chandra Kanthi-LED Street Lights project with the target of completing the
installation of 27.52 lakhs by the end of January 2019, Under the administration of
the corresponding TDP MLAs, the EESL team and the TDP Government completed
the Installation of LED bulbs in East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram,
Anantapuram, Chittoor and Kadapa Districts, by 24th December 2018, 21.21 lakhs of
regular street lights have been converted into LED lights in these districts.

Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP Government have achieved their goal of
completing the conversion of conventional street lights into LED lights in Nellore,
Krishna and Kurnool by January 15th 2019 and completed the installations in the
districts of Visakhapatnam, Prakasam and Guntur by 30th January 2019. It was
estimated that around 1881 million units of electricity which have a worth of Rs
1,138 Cr will be saved with the installation of 28.00 Lakh LED Street lights across the
State of Andhra Pradesh. Which is said to be one of the Top TDP Contributions in
providing a cost-effective and enduring solution for the maintenance of street lights
in rural areas.

The East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh has become the country’s first ‘LED
street light district’. The then honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. Nara
Chandrababu Naidu declared the district as the first district in the state to be
equipped with 100 per cent LED street lights on April 24 and dedicated this credit to
all the rural people in Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Panchayat Raj Divas.

Andhra Pradesh has already been ranked as the best State in the implementation of
energy efficiency and conservation programmes by the World Bank, Under the
leadership and guidance of the former Chief Minister of AP Shri. Nara Chandrababu
Naidu and the state have also got the significance of having the highest number of
LED lights in the country followed by Gujarat (11.26 lakhs) and Rajasthan (9.6 lakhs)

All of these are considered the Top TDP Achievements.
