The New Covenant Life

Memory Verse: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more
abundantly.” John 10:10
LESSON STUDY INTRO (Sab)

This week we’ll see from Scripture how the blessings of the New Covenant life can begin
right now! (see Qtly, Sab, par 2)
1. The New Covenant gives you a new heart (Sun, Mon, Tue)
In the both the Old and New Testaments, God repeatedly promises to give us a new
heart.
Jer. 31:31-33; Ezekiel 36:26, 27
2 Cor. 4:6; Eph. 3:17-19
“By [Christ] working in us, our lives are changed, our hearts are changed, and we
become new people with new thoughts, new desires, and new goals.” (Qtly, Tue, par
2)

The new heart has freedom and joy unlike anything the unconverted can attain.
Freedom from the guilt and power of sin
2 Cor. 5:21
Rom. 8:1
Joy in the fellowship of Christ and His church.
1 John 1:1-4
2. The New Covenant gives you a new future (Wed)
Eternal life includes the present and the future. (Qtly, Wed, par 1, 2)
Even the immediate, temporal blessings of the Christian life are not nearly all that
Christ promises the redeemed. (1 Cor. 15:19)
Though we may still experience death, resurrection to eternal life gives us a
confidence for the future unknown by those apart from Christ. (John 11:25, 26; 1
Thess. 4:13, 14)

Christ became flesh with us, in order that we might become one spirit with Him. Itis
by virtue of this union that we are to come forth from the grave—not merely as a
manifestation of the power of Christ, but because, through faith, His life has become
ours. Those who see Christ in His true character, and receive Him into the heart,
have everlasting life. It is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in us; and the Spirit of
God, received into the heart by faith, is the beginning of the life eternal

3. The New Covenant gives you a new mission. (Wed, Thu)

While the unconverted life is inherently self- centered, a new covenant life in Christ
gives you a focus on helping others know Jesus, too.
2 Cor. 5:14, 17-21
The spirit of Christ is a missionary spirit. The very first impulse of the renewed heart
is to bring others also to the Saviour.

More than merely desiring to share the truth with others, we have been commanded
to do so by Jesus Himself!
Matt. 28:19, 20
Rev. 21:17
Not upon the ordained minister only rests the responsibility of going forth to fulfil this
commission. Everyone who has received Christ is called to work for the salvation of
his fellow men... The charge to give this invitation includes the entire church.
Everyone who has hear the invitation is to echo the message from hill and valley,
saying “Come.”

CONCLUSION (Fri)
“The covenant is not just some deep theological concept; instead, it defines the
parameters of our saving relationship with Christ, a relationship that reaps us
wonderful benefits now and at His return.” (Qtly, Fri, summary)
