The “JD" Series Pulling Tool util- izes the "D" sub which is made up to the skirt of the tool. The dogs, which are mounted on the skirt, are inserted into the vertical openings in the skirt. The dogs are spring loaded and have pawls located in the windows in the skirt. The "JD" Series Pulling Tool cen te released, if necessary, from tke retrievable device by downware jarring. In CAMCO's pulling tool nomencle- ture, the second letter designates the direction of sheer release fer the tool. A "JD" is a "jar down" release tool. The third letter des~ ignates core length; a “C" being a "long" core and an "S" a short core. A third core length, designated es an "L", 4s even shorter than an "s" but has limited application, RECOMMENDED WIRELINE TOOL STRING Jd wine ROPE [socket FY WIRELINE J — STEM [—Hyp. sans (optional) MECHANICAL [— 4aRs TT KNUCKLE JOINT (optional) i PULLING [Toon WIRELINE PULLING PROCEDURE 1. Ensure that the “JD" Series Pulling Tool is fully assembled and in proper working order. Make up the pulling tocl onto the wireline tool string. + Equalize pressure above and be- Low the subsurface device. 3. Run the tool string into the well until the pulling tool latches onto the fishing neck of the subsurface device. The approxi mate depth of the subsurface de~ vice is known from well records. 4. Jar upward release the sub- surface device from the well. There shoulé be an increase in the tool string weight in- dicating thet the device has been retrieved. 5. Remove the wireline tool string from the well. “JD" SERIES PULLING TOOL OPERATION The "JD" Series Pulling Tool is run into the well using standard wireline techniques. When the pull- ing tool contacts the fishing neck of the subsurface device, the spring loaded dogs move upward and out, allowing the lug members of the dogs to pass over the fishing neck. When the lugs are below the fishing neck, the dog spring forces a down- ward, clutening action of the lugs around the fishing neck. Upward jarring on the wireline releases the subsurface device from tre well. ABORTING TEE PULLING OPERATION The "JD" Series Pulling Tool can be released from the subsurface device, witaout pulling the device, by down- ward jarring, Downward jarring ex- erts force against a shear pin which attaches the core to the skirt of the pulling tool. When the pin shears, the heavier core spring overcomes the resistance of the the of the core engages the base of the pawls, pushing the pawls upward. As the pawls move upward, they, in turn, pull the dogs upward. As the dogs move upward along the inclined surface of the vertical openings in the skirt, the dogs move outward, releasing the lugs on the dogs from the fishing neck of the subsurface device. The pulling tool is now free from the subsurface device. RELEASING THE PULLING TOOL FROM HE SUBSURFACE DEVICE AT THE SURFACE To release the pulling tool from the subsurface device at the sur- face, grasp the dogs in the area of the pawls. Pull the dogs toward the upper end of tke tool, compress~ ing the dog sprirg. As the cogs ate pulled upward, they will nove outward, releasing the lugs on the dogs from the fishing neck of the subsurface device. The subsurface device can now be removed from the pulling tool.
