UDC 69,057: 624,014.27 JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD s1s Tubular Steel Scaffolds A 8951-1985 (Reaffirmed: 1990) 1, Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the tubular steel scaffolds used for building works. Remar! ‘The units and numerical values given in { } in this standard are in accordance with the International System of Units (SI), and are appended for reference. 2. Classification The tubular steel scaffolds shall be classified into tube and coupler scaf- folding and prefabricated scaffolding. (1) Tube and Coupler Scaffolding It means the location scaffolding where steel pipes are assembled using clamps in a building site. (2) Prefabricated Scaffolding It means the location scaffolding where Vertical frames prefablicated using steelpipes as principal member and other members are assembled in a building site. 3. Names of Respective Parts 3.1 Tube and Coupler Scaffolding The names of respective parts of tube and coupler Scaffolding shall be as follows (refer to Fig. 1). (2) Clamp _ It is the following accessory metals used for tightening Tubes intersecting them. (a) Cross T Metal fittings used for crossing of tubes at Hight angles. (b) Adjustable Type Metal fittings used for intersecting tubes at optional angles. (2) The steel tubes for tube and coupler scaffolding shall be processed with couting having rustproof effect as follows: (a) The steel tube shall be coated after sufficiently cleaning it by sand blasting or pickling. (b) The quality of coatings of tube processed with zinc coating shall be Grade i HDZA of JIS H 8641 or that superior thereto. 4.1.2 Accessory Metals (1) The strength or the like of tube and coupler joint shall conform to Table 1. (b) The length of both side parts of collar capable of being inserted into tube and coupler, shall be respectively 95 mm min. (c) It shall have the extraction proof function and said function shall be necessarily confirmed to surely operate. (4.2) (a) (b) (4.3) (a) (b) (e) (a) 7 A 8951-1985 ‘The clamp shall have body, cover, bolt, nut and pin and further conform to the following: The plate thickness of body and cover shall be 3.0 mm min. The diameter of bolt shall be 9.0 mm min. including thread ridge. The fixed type metal fittings shall have tenon and base plate and further conform to the following: The thickness of its tenon shall be 2.2 mm min, and further the length of its part capable of being inserted into tube and coupler shall be 95 mm min. It shall have the extraction proof function. The thickness of base plate shall be 5.4 mm min. and further respective sides thereof shall be square or rectangle of 120 mm min. in side length. The base plate shall have a weep hole and not less than 2 nail holes. 4.2 Prefabricated Scaffolding 4.2.1 Material quality, dimensions and dimensional permissible deviations of members and accessory metals for prefabricated scaffolding. The material quality, dimensions and dimensional permissible deviation of members and accessory metals for prefabricated scaffolding shall conform to Table 4. However, as for material quality, those having mechanical properties equal or superior to this standard may be accepted. The width herein means the distance between the centers of both leg posts at the upper end of leg post. 2, The height herein means the length including the dimension of collar of leg post joint. 4.2.3 Construction of Members and Accessory Metals The construction of members and accessory metals shall be as follows: ame The vertical frame shall be prepared by welding > horizontal member and stiffener, having intersecting brace, and further shall conform to the following: (a) The intersecting brace pin shall be 13.0 mm min. in diameter and it shall have the extraction proof function. (b) The vertical fitting interval of intersecting brace pins shall be 1200 mm and over to 1300 mm incl. (b) Gripper metal fittings shall be jointed to both ends of ledger member by welding, or the like. (c) The plate thickness of gripper metal fittings shall be 7.2 mm min. (a) The gripper metal fittings shall have the dislocation-proof fittings to prevent the vertical frame from loosening from horizontal member, Fig. 6 Ledger member Bracket member wiaen of edger frame ‘Length of ledger frame FS oripper motel Disloeation- proof fitting fittings (4) Ledger Frame with Floor The ledger frame with floor shall have loor member, ledger member, beam member and gripper metal fittings and conform to the following: (a) It shall be prepared by welding floor member, ledger member and beam member, or by welding beam member to the floor member and ledger member unified by bending working or the like. (b) For the ledger frame with floor having not less than 2 floor members, the clearance between the floor members shall be 30 mm max. (ce) Its width shall be 240 mm and over to 550 mm incl. end its length shall be 1850 mm max. (@) For the steel plate floor member, its plate thickness shall be 1.1mm min. (e) Gripper metal fittings shall be jointed to the four corners of ledger member or beam member by welding or rivetting. (£) The plate thickness of gripper metal fittings shall be 7.2 mm min. for that of single plate type. 13 A 8951-1985 (g) The gripper metal fittings shall have the dislocation-proof fittings to prevent the vertical frame from floating from horizontal member. (h) The metal floor member shall be processed with the slide preventive measures. Fig. 7 Ledger member Clearance _, Floor member * LZ Beam member. £ 28 aay ee ea Sd onpper neta Se proof fitting (Example of Ledger Frame with Floor) (5) Jack Type Base Metal Fittings The jack type base metal fittings shall have threaded bar, base plate and adjusting nut and further conform to the following: (a) When the using height (it means the height from the bottom end of base plate to the upper end of adjusting nut) is made maximum, that using height shall be 350 mm max. (b) In the case of (a), the length of part capable of being inserted into the leg post of vertical frame shall be 95 mm min. (c) The plate thickness of base plate shall be 5.4mm min. and respec- tive sides thereof shall be square or rectangle of 120 mm min, in side length. (a) The base plate shall have not less than 2 nail holes. As for the vertical member of the corbelled frame having horizontal member, diagonal member and vertical member, the thickness of steel pipe shall be 1.7 mm in min, and the thickness of that of materials other than steel pipe shall be 1.6 mm min, ‘The thickness of metal fittings shall be 3.0 mm min. and further: the diameter of bolt shall be 9.0 mm min, including screw thread. The top of horizontal member shall have the falling off preventive plate or handrail post receiver having the height of 30 mm min. from the upper surface of horizontal member to prevent the scaf- flold plate from falling off. The corbelled frame of expansion and contraction type shall have the principal member and insertion member of horizontal member, vertical member, diagonal member and not less than two metal fittings, further conforming to the clauses from (iii) to (v) of (a) and otherwize shall comply with the following: The width given in Fig. 10 shall be 300 mm min. when the length of horizontal member is minimized and 1150 mm max. when the length of height of horizontal member is maximized. 15 A 8951-1985 [Pater somber or “| Arnsestion menor of horigontal monber (») The height given in Fig. 10 of above-mentioned (a) shall be 200 mm min, and further 30 $ min. of the width when the length of horizontal member is maximized. (c) It shall have the function to prevent the insertion member from coming out from the principal member of horizontal member. (d) The length of overlapping part of the principal member and in- sertion member of horizontal member shall be 50 mm min. when the length of horizontal member is maximized. (e) The insertion member of horizontal member shall be fixable to the principal member with bolts, pins, ete. (6.3) For the corbelled frame of opening and closing type, the jointing part of horizontal member and diagonal member shall have hinge construction and further the Giagonal member shall not be opened by not less than the required angle. Hereinafter, ditto.) shall be 1200 mm max. (b) The principal member, of which the length can be adjusted, shall have the extraction proof function. (ce) The plate thickness of gripper metal fittings shall be 3.0 mm min. (d) The clearance between the principal member and the metal fittings shall have adjustable construction. (e) In the case of metal fittings having screw threads at its top, the diameter of screw shall be 9.0 mm min, including thread ridge. (b) The length of both side parts of collar capable of being inserted into the leg post of vertical frame, shall be respectively 95 mm min. (c) It shall be able to be confirmed that the leg post joint has the ex- traction proof function and further its function surely acts. However, this rule is not applicable to the leg post joint of jointly using arm lock. The mean value shall be 1000 kgf (9807 N} min, and the minimum value shall be 900 kgf {8826 N} min. The mean value shall be 1100 kgf {10787 } min. and the minimum value shall be 1000 kgf (9807 N} min, an A 8951-1985 (9) Arm Lock The elongation and tensile strength of arm lock shall be tested in accordance with 6.2.9 and the elongation shall be 2mm max. Mean value of tensile strength shall be 650 kgf {6 374 N} min, and the minimum value thereof shall be 600 kgf {5 834 N} min. 5. Manufacture The manufacturing method of members and accessory metals shall be as follows: (1) The steel pipe shall be free from defects such as bending, indents, cracks, cracking in two sheets, etc, and from the added part to be used. (2) The processing and machining of materials shall be carried out so as not to generate the decrease of strength due to warpage, twisting, ete. (3) Jack type base metal fittings shall be as follows: (a) The welding of screwed bar and base plate shall be carried out by full-cireumferential welding. (b) The end surface of adjusting nut shall be finished perpendicularly to the axis of screw thread and flatly. (4) The welding shall be carried out by are welding. Further, the welding of tube and tube, tube and plate, plate and plate, and of tube and intersecting brace pin shall be carried out by full-circumferential weld- ing or both side welding or the method having the strength equal or superior thereto. (5) The members and accessory metals shall be prepared by a method wherein after cleaning them by removing adhering substance such as dust, stains, etc., floated black skin, rust, harmful flaw, burr and projections, they shall be processed by coating with rust’ preventive paint or by surface treatment by coating or the like. 22 A 8951-1985 6, Test Methods 6.1 Tube and Coupler Scaffolding 6.1.1 Tests of Tube and Coupler Joint The tests of tube and coupler joint shall be carried out according to following (1), (2) and (3). (3) Compression Test The tube and coupler joint is attached to the tester using core metal, knife edge and knife edge receiving seat and steel tube as given in Fig. 19, then loaded with compressive load and the maximum value of load shall be measured. (2) By making the locking torque of clamp 450 kgf {44.13 N-m}, tensile load is loaded and the maximum value of load shall be measured. 6.2 Prefabricated Scaffolding 6.2.1 Tests of Vertical Frame ‘The test of vertical frame shall be carried out according to following (i), (2) and (3). (1) Compression Test The vertical frame is attached to the tester under the condition where the centers of upper and lower base beams align with the centers of the upper and lower press plates of tester by using the upper and lower base beams, guide sleeve and guide pipe, core metal, knife edge and knife edge receiving seat as given in Fig. 21 according to the type of vertical frame, then loaded with compressive load on the center line of vertical frame and the maximum value of load shall be measured. 25 A 8951-1985 Fig. 21 Tester Knife edge receiving seat. press plate _Upper base beam Guide sleeve Knife edge (2) Test of Vertical Deflection The vertical frame is attached to the fester under the condition where the center of base beam align with the center of lower press plate of tester by using core metal, knife edge and knife edge receiving seat, base beam, load piece, impulse dead-weight and piano wire as given in Fig. 22, then loaded with compressive load on the center line of vertical frame and the vertical deflection amount of horizontal member at a load of 1000 kgf {9.81 KN} shall be measured. Fig. 24 Unit: mm 40 27 A 8951-1985 6.2.2 Test of Intersecting Brace The compression test of intersecting brace shali be carried out by a method wherein two intersecting braces as one group are attached to the tester under the condition where the centers of upper and lower base beems and rectangular frame align with the center of the upper and lower press plates of tester by using upper and lower base beams, guide sleeve and guide pipe and rectangular frame as given in Fig. 25, then loaded with compressive load and the maximum value of load is measured. In that case, the intersecting brace shall be attached under the condition where it is made to be in contact with the extraction-proof fitting of rectangular frame.
