Solution of equations, solution of linear equations, solution of non-linear
simultaneous equations, solving the egenvalue problem, solution of initial value
problems, introduction to the solution of partial differential equations
ME 311 Thermodynamics 1 (4 hours)
Thermodynamic systems, boundary and surroundings, property, state, path and
process, cycle. Heat and work properties; temperature and pressure measurements,
first low of thermodynamics, internal energy and enthalpy. Non-flow processes.
Second low of thermodynamics and its corollaries, Entropy, reversibility and
irreversibility. Thermodynamic relations.
MES12 Fluid Mechanics 1 (4 hours)
Physical properties of fluids, methods of analysis, system, control volume, fluid
static's, buoyancy, basic equation of fluid mechanics, conservation of mass, energy
and momentum.
Dimensional analysis and similitude flow in pipes, flow in open channels, methods of
measurements,
ME 313 Mechanics of machines (4 hours)
Kinematics: velocity and acceleration diagrams. Instantaneous centres, kinematics
analysis by complex numbers.
Balancing: balancing of rotating and reciprocating masses.
Kinetics: inertia effects, piston effort diagrams, crank effort diagrams, fluctuation of
speed Flywheel size.
ME 314 Mechanics of materials (3 hours)
Geometry and analysis of stress and strain, system complex stress, mohrs circles of
stress and strain, principle stresses and strains, strain rosettes, stress ellipsoid.
Theory of failure. Thick cylinders: simple, compound and wire wound. Helical, spiral
and leaf springs. Rotating discs, strus; Euler and rankine equations. Bending of
curved bars.
