Enhancing Resilience through Teacher Education
(ENRETE)
Principles
1. Evidence based: resilience interventions are based on
an evaluation of what has been found to work
2. Contextually relevant:interventions are responsive to
cultural context and diverse needs of learners
3. Constructivist: tutors adapt and build on what
students bring to the course
4. Reflective practice: practitioners engage in
continuous reflection to improve practice
5. Systemic: mobilise the support of all stakeholders
including parents, families, community and professionals and
underline the need for adults working with children to develop their
their own resilience

Evaluation: Teachers
„Lots of opportunities for discussion, work in small groups, video clips. Excellent examples from
lecturers, video material and literature”
Evaluation: Reviewers
“ From content to critical analysis, and evaluation, it is a great survey of the
field. Students should come away with both the theory and practical skills to
use the concept of resilience in classrooms in many different contexts.”
Professor Michael Ungar, Canada
“The teaching methods are varied and make very good use of experiential
exercises to enhance learning and to provide a lively set of activities that will
stimulate discussion and reflection about the concept of resilience in a wide
range of social contexts.”
Professor Helen Cowie, UK
