POINTERS FOR JOB EVALUATION PREPARATION BY MEMBERS

It should follow two broad planks viz:

1. General:
The day-to-day activities: clinic, including clerking, examination, specimen
collection, diagnosis, out patient management or admission, etc, surgery,
ward round, including review of patient and bedside procedures. IV drugs,
IVF, aspiration, lumbar puncture, wound dressing or review, biopsy, Ng tube,
gastric lavage, digital examination of vaginal, rectum, etc, deliveries,
discharge of patient, confirmation of death, referrer to specialist or to
another specialist if the attending physician is a specialist already,
investigations, pre and post discharge counselling, mixture of administration
and clinical duties.

2. Specialties: their duty could be tailored according to their daily activities


having been responsible for 1 above. Some of the specialties include.

d. ENT
e. Ophthalmology
f. Traumatology
g. Cardiothoracic
h. Neurosurgery
i. Urology
j. Plastic surgery
k. Internal medicine and specialty
l. Radiology
m. Pathology and specialties
n. O&G and specialties
o. Family medicine
p. Anaesthesia
q. Psychiatry
r. Onchoradiotherapy
s. Paediatrics
t. Paediatric surgery
u. Dentistry and specialties
Format: Every detail is important here
A. Daily clinic activity. Daily ICU or NICU activities
This should include the cycle of activities in each clinic/ICU or NICU being
covered and the volume of patient seen

B. Lectures for students, residents and other health workers


C. Surgical days and the activities that constitutes the cycle
D. Ward round. Bed to bed activities and the cycle of activities that include
next action for patients, investigations, bedside interventions etc
E. Seminar and tutorials
F. Grand ward rounds (Clinical Conference)
G. Call duty and the attendant implications, stress, sleeplessness, overwork,
volume etc
H. Legal responsibility according to law and medical ethics (Patient liability)
I. Loss of social interaction
J. Hazard - Occupational
- Environmental eg: Working in bandits or terrorists infested
areas.
K. Post death guilt (Psychological trauma)
L. Pathology Laboratory Duties
