Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany, on March 21, 1685, his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach,

was a musician in the town and taught Bach to play the violin and viola and to write the musical notes, and
raised him in the Protestant faith.

Johann Sebastian lost his mother when he was nine and his father when he was ten. With no other choice, he
went to live with his older brother Johann Christoph.

On October 17, 1707, Bach married his cousin Maria Barbara. The marriage lasted 13 years, until his wife's
death in 1720.

Together Bach and Maria Barbara had seven children. Three died as babies, of the four who survived, two
became professional musicians like their father (Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach).

Johann Sebastian Bach died in Leipzig, Germany, on July 28, 1750.
