Questions 30–34
Linn Olsen
Journalist, Anita Dokken, talks to 11-year-old Linn Olsen – a successful artist
from Norway
Linn’s mum, Cathrine, says her daughter’s interest in art began when she was very
little. ‘We read lots of children’s books together, and she really loved looking at the
pictures. For Linn’s second birthday, we took her to a museum with amazing
paintings. The next day, she started painting with her fingers. A few months later,
she began watching a weekly TV programme that shows children how to paint
pictures.’
For such a young artist, Linn’s paintings are incredible. She says, ‘Each one takes
hours of planning. I want to paint people with interesting faces, so I’m always
looking for them everywhere I go – that’s as much fun as painting, actually. I enjoy
painting in our garage, because there’s lots of space for all my different colour
paints and brushes.’
Linn says about her future, ‘One day, I’d love to be a really well-known artist with
exhibitions around the world! But to do that, I need to get much better at painting, so
I practise every day. I was asked to give art classes to young people who want to
learn to paint, but I’m too busy at the moment.’
31 What surprised Linn about her first A how many paintings people bought
exhibition?
B how many journalists contacted her
32 What does Linn like most about A choosing the place to paint it in
preparing for a new painting?
B deciding which colour paints to use
in it
B improve as an artist
