Discourse Analysis

1. What is the discursive event or the “INSTANCE OF DISCOURSE” or the text


being analyzed?

Answer :
According to the article “Teacher’s Verbal Feedback on Students’ Response: A
Malaysian

ESL Classroom Discourse Analysis” itself the discursive event is a face to face
interaction to someone. Just like the teacher and student interaction or exchanges of
ideas to the topics they discussing.

2. What theory/ies or framework/s is/are used in the analysis of text?

Cognitive Learning therapy is used in the analysis of text.


3. What linguistic units are being analyzed? (Units could mean lexical choices, patterns
of interaction, verb usage, units of exchanges, structure of sentences, figures of speech,
rhetorical strategies and so on?)

Answer :
The linguistic units being analyze is the units of exchange.

4. What is the finding of the study? Emphasize the salient points as these will relate to
“INSTANCE OF SOCIAL PRACTICE.” How do the linguistic units being analyzed reflect
social or institutional practices and value systems? If the social practice is not revealed
explicitly in the findings, phrase the answer yourself.

Answer :
The findings of the study is that the prolonged initiations of the teacher makes the
lesson less communicative. The linguistic units being analyze is how the teacher and
student exchange of word or how verbal feedback shows.
