ACTIVITIES OF KARNATAKA LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT AGENCY Kamataka Livestock Development Agency was established vide G.O.No:AHF/I98/AHP/98, Bangalore, dated: 27-12-2002 as the state implementing Agency for implementation of “National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breedi programme inthe state by utilizing funds from Government of India and other sources, KLDA is an autonomous institution formed in the year 2003 as a registered society ‘vide registration No: 968/2002-03, dated:18-01-2003. ‘The society is govemed by its ‘own byclaws, KLDA is implementing the following schemes namely: |. National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding, 2. National Livestock Insurance Scheme [As per the guidelines issued under NPCBB, the agency has an empowered Governing Council to manage its affairs, The board of directors has representatives from all major organizations engaged in Cattle and Buffalo Breeding activities in the state. The Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries in the state isthe Chairman of KLDA and an animal breeding/Reproduction specialist is to be recruited as the Chief Executive Officer. The staff is to be drawn from the state department of Animal Husbandry, In case of non availability of man power, recruitment from extra departmental sources can be done, At present Additional Director Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services is functioning es ‘excofficio Project Director, KLDA I. National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding Objectives: + Toarange delivery of Antificial Insemination services. ‘¢ Toimprove productivity of bovine population * To underiake breed improvement programmes for indigenous catle and Buffaloes, Salient features of achievements under NPCBB * The coverage of breedable caitle and buffaloes under Artificial Insemination which ‘was 24% during 2003 has reached 72% as on date * 1115 Veterinary Officers and 2460 Para Veterinary staff was given refreshing training in Artificial Insemination since inception. ‘Sperm stations in the state have been brought under ISO 9001 2000 certification. ‘© Quality control has becn imposed at all levels of cattle and buffalo breeding © Sperm stations have been strengthened to produce minimum 10 lek doses of «quality frozen semen per annum per station. ‘+ Nandini sperm station and State Semen Collection Centre at Hesaraghatta have been graded “A” and State Livestock Breeding and Training Centre, Hesaragbatta has been graced “C” and Livestock Breeding and Traiging Centre, Dharwad is non graded by Central Monitoring Unit(CMU) ** Field performance recording have been taken up in indigenous cattle JHF and Jersey breeds ‘+ Buffalo Breeding Farm has been strengthened for bull calf production of Marah and Suri breeds. ‘* Training has been imparted to 346 unemployed youths in Artificial Insemination to facilitate door serviees to the farmers. Il. National Livestock Insurance Scheme: Government of India has started this scheme to help the farmers who lose their valuable animals due to diseases and accents. This scheme is being implemented in 17 distits of the state namely Bangalore (urban), Bangalore (rural), Ramanagare, Kolar, Chickaballapura, Mandya, Mysore, Hassan, Dakshin Kannada, Tumkur Davangere, Bellary, Belgaum, Bagalkot. Gulbarga, Yadgir and Haveri 50% of the ‘premium amount will be provided as subsidy by Central Govemment and remaining ‘50% will be borne by beneficiaries along with Service tax. Small farmers/marginal farmers and agricultural laborers having female cattle and bulfaloes which are considered high yielding in milk or pregnant ean insure their snimals under the scheme for maximum of their current market value, Benefit of subsidy is to be restricted to two animals per beneficiary per household as per the norms of NREGA. For the years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. United India Insurance Company and New India Assurance Company have been selected to insure the animals through Tender.
