CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter is composed of the research design, sample of the study, data instrument,

collection of data, and statistical treatment of data used in the study.

Data Gathering Procedures

Prior to the conduct of the study, the researchers formulated the title, with the help of

their research adviser – Lendsy Salcedo

In order for the researchers to gather important data needed for the completion of the

research, the researchers used survey-questionnaire as data gathering instrument. The survey-

questionnaire or was formulated, and a letter addressed to the respondents was made to ask

permission for the floating of the survey-questionnaire, noted by the thesis adviser. Upon

permission, the researchers floated the questionnaires and retrieved them at once for analysis.

Statistical Treatment

The data gathered by the researchers were carefully tallied, analyzed and interpreted

using statistical tools to discover the impact of peer pressure to decision making skills of the

respondents. The researchers used frequency count, average weighted mean, and correlational

coefficient. (for the testing of hypothesis):

1) To answer problem #1 and #2, the researchers used Frequency Distribution. The

formula is shown below,

𝑃 =𝑓

∗100

Where:

P = Percentage

F = Total Response of Respondents

N = Number of Respondents

2) To answer problem #3, the researchers used the Average Weighted Mean. The formula

is shown below,

𝐴𝑊𝑀 = 4𝐹4 + 3𝐹3 + 2𝐹2 + 1𝐹1

AWM = Weighted Mean

N = Number of Respondents

F4: Number of students who answered “Always”

F3: Number of students who answered “Often”

F2: Number of students who answered “Seldom”

F1: Number of students who answered “Never”

3) To answer problem #4, testing hypothesis, the researchers used the Pearson-r or the

Correlational Coefficient.

𝒓 = 𝑁Σ𝑥𝑦 − (Σ𝑥)(Σ𝑦)

[𝑁 Σ𝑥2 − (Σ𝑥)2][𝑁 Σ𝑦2 − (Σ𝑦)2]

Where:

N = Number of pairs of scores

Σ 𝑥 𝑦 = Sum of the products of paired scores

Σ 𝑥 = Sum of x scores

Σ 𝑦 = Sum of y scores

Σ 𝑥2 = Sum of squared x scores

Σ 𝑦2 = Sum of squared y scores
