Deforestation means cutti ng down trees i n large n u mber. The causes of deforestation are many. Bangladesh is the most densely
popu lated cou ntry i n the world. Its popu lation is m uch more i n proportion to its area. Th is h uge n u mber of popu lation needs more
shelter, agricu ltu ral land, fuel, fu rn itu re etc. for all these reasons people cut trees. Moreover there are some dishonest people
who cut trees i n ou r forests to make money. The effects of deforestation are too many to describe. Th is destruction distu rbs ou r
ecological balance. The existences of an i mals are bei ng th reatened. Due to deforestation carbon dioxide is i ncreasi ng world wide.
As a resu lt, the world is becom i ng warmer. The sea level is risi ng and many parts of the world are goi ng to be engu lfed by the
sea i n recent futu re. On the other hand, new areas of the world are tu rn i ng i nto deserts as a resu lt of deforestation. The removal
if trees cause bi rds and other an i mals livi ng on them to leave the place. It also causes serious damage to the soi l, as trees give
protection to soi l as well. In the end, the soi l gets sedi ment i n the river bed and causes freq uent floods. So, if we destroy trees
at random, one day the cou ntry wi ll tu rn i nto a great desert. A ll livi ng an i mals and bi rds wi ll not fi nd any food or shelter to live

cou ntry. Im mediate measu res shou ld be taken to prevent deforestation. People shou ld be made aware of tree plantation th rough
mass media. Tree plantation program me shou ld be extended th roughout the cou ntry. Plant more trees cam paign m ust be carried
way i n th is regard. Every man and woman can contribute to th is program me by planti ng at least two trees per head.
