For simpli, the roof can be divided into three areas: 1) comers, 2) perimeter and 3) the field-ofroo (area inside comers and perimoten. The roof perimetor and comers are exposed to higher up forces than the fel ofthe oof, The maximum uplift forae occurs at the corners when the wind blows at an ‘angle of about 45" tothe rot (oughly along the diagonal). The maximum upit force along the windward root perimeter occurs when the wind blows at 90° to the penmoter. Actual pressure coefficients for the comers ‘and perimetor vary depending on the bulding height, parapot height, roof siope, et ‘To compensate for these Increased pressures, apecial roof deck and above-dack component fastening is recommended in the corner and perimeter areas. For an FM Approved roof system, itis not necessary to actualy calculate the Increased pressure. The increased fastening recommended by FM Global data shoots for these areas is sutficiont to resist these forces. ‘The roof deck and related securement will alvays experience the full uit load. Per this operating sten- ard, however, the uplift loads forthe above-deck components can be influenced by the type of oof deck. Ifthe deck is of panel construction, such as steel, wood or cementtious panels, precast gypsum and concrete plank, the internal bulding pressure is alowed to act on the underside of the above-deck ‘components. ©2002 Fat Mutual nsrane Company Al ghis eerved
