Title: P&D Lab

Problem Statement: A group of biology students was carrying out an ecological study on
a pond & observed that several abiotic factors affect the population size of different
species of fish in the pond. Choose one abiotic factor and plan and design an experiment
to test if that abiotic factor affects the population size of specific species of fish in the
pond.

Hypothesis:
Aim: To determine if the pH of temperature affects the population size of specific species
of fish in the pond.
Apparatus/ Material: pencil, ruler, thermometer, paper
Method:
1. Get a thermometer
2. Place thermometer in the pond with fishes
3. Let the meter stay in the pond for 2-3 minutes for accurate readings
4. Observe and document readings seen on the thermometer

Variables (independent, dependent, control):

Manipulated variables: the soil
Responding variables: electrical faults or short circuits can lead to loss of slope or signal
in the pH meter.
Controlled variables: here the conditions of the pond must be kept constant. Things like
the amount of water, the amount of fish, and the depth of the pond.
Control variables: When testing for ph of soil in a pond the ideal pH is 7.5 to 8.5 if it is
between or equal to then it would be control
Expected results: Table showing blah blah blah

Before temperature check After blah blah
