MATERIALS AND METHODS
Study comprised of 17 acyclic eross bred cows belonging to the Livestock research
station Bikaner. Acyclic pubertal heifers and post partum cows not exhibi

Cows and 5 heifers were implanted with CIDR - B- ( Inter Ag. Hamilton NZ
containing 1.9 gms of Progesterone ) which was removed after 9 days, when 1000
LU. of PMSG ( Intervet, Holland ) was administered IM . Estrus was monitored,
closely and recorded. Blood was collected every 3-4 th day from the day of =
implant withdrawl till 40 days. Plasma was separated and stored at -20 °C ill
assay. Plasma progesterone was estimated using liquid phase radio immuno assay,
described by Kamboj and Prakash ( 1993 )
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
It is clear from the Table that all the treated 7 cows and 5 heifers were induced 10.”
estrus with a mean interval of 3.5 and 2.2 clays compared to 60 % in control. The
overall conception rates were 28.5 % . 60 % and 40 % for treated cows, heifers, 2
and untreated controls respectively. The pregnancy rate was low and the results
simulate with those of Kupfer Sehiied et al ( 1979 ) 3

heifers of treatment group in comparison to 60 % ( 3/5 ) cows of control group.
Delayed and less pronounced peaks indicate cither lack of ovulation, formation of
weak corpora lutea of Iculinisation of unovulated folicles. Transient peaks depict
improper cyclicity. It can be scen that although the response of the treatment was
100 % effective in inducing estrus in cows and heifers but there was an individual
variation in the ovulatory response and further resumption of normal cyclicity,
