This poem expresses how immense and boundless God's love is, comparing it to filling the oceans with ink, using all the skies as parchment, every plant as a writing quill, and every person as a scribe, yet still not being able to fully capture or contain God's love even with such vast resources. The poem concludes that God's love will endure forever in the songs of saints and angels.

Were every stalk on earth a quill And every man a scribe by trade To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry Nor could the scroll contain the whole Though stretched from sky to sky
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure
How measureless and strong It shall forevermore endure The saints’ and angels’ song
