I believe that good leadership is constituted by not only values but also skills.

This
utterly demands the total absence of acting as an individual, and be replaced by
guiding and responsibilities amongst peers, as well as trusting that they shall do what
is expected. Not only that, but true bonafide leadership must involve, accurate
observation in order to foresee problems and have the ability of solving. Furthermore,
leadership is about motivation and inspiration to others that follow and not at all
undermining any individual. Under this perspective, I started my leadership journey
when I began to be a girl scout at the age of twelve, knowing that I was going to be
part of the local-global change.

In 2015 when I was fifteen, I caught under a predicament that indirectly affected two
countries. The contamination of the highest navigable Lake in the world, which
between Bolivia and Peru, was increasing considerably. It was harsh to see such an
exquisite gift of nature deteriorating at such inevitable pace, so I took upon me to act
and went to speak to local schools and managed to give talks about global
contamination and its consequences. The second part of the project consisted in an
alliance with the local authorities to clean all the touristic beach. That is how, with the
help of about 200 people, we began a four-day journey to clean the village. I took lead
in obtaining donations from companies in the tourism field to buy trash bins and
install them around the beach.

At a later stage, I took a different journey; a friend introduced me to skateboarding, a

sport that changed my life and perspective inasmuch I learnt that it was a sport that
could be practiced by either female or males indistinctly. During this learning
transition, I also saw the lack of help from the government to motivate it considering
that there was already a possibility to make it an Olympic sport. That is how, a small
group of the community and I took the reins of the Skateboarding Association and
continued with the annual events and competitions to promote it. Just before the
pandemic, the Skating National Federation implemented national competitions to send
people to international events, one of the first dates was in my city. To be honest,
manage a national competition was not easy, decisions needed to be taken
immediately and it was hard to have a solid team to make everything happen. In early
2019, we began with free skateboarding lessons, with the help of Soforthilfe; an NGO
dedicated to help people who live in the streets. Through this institution, we obtained
skates and gear donations from an international NGO (Make Life Skate Life) to make
the classes possible. Unfortunately, we stopped them when the pandemic started.
However, this year we got reunited and began with the activities again, and today we
are finally considered as a legal entity which helped us to send athletes to the South
American games.
Although, these experiences may not seem important or influential to others, they are
to me since I had passion and dedication in these projects and these moments have
unknowingly arisen my leadership skills. Moreover, I am confident that my
experience can be considered as a steppingstone for an opportunity to become a leader
in my country. Studying at the United Kingdom will provide the chance for me to
experience new cultures and share ideas developing points that will hopefully help me
to improve my society and build a brighter tomorrow for future generations.
