Introduction:
Crude fat includes the entire portion of feed soluble in ether. C. Fat in most feeds may also embrace varying amounts of other ether soluble materials such as the fat soluble vitamins carotene, chlorophyll, sterols, phospholipids, waxes etc. The amount of such substances other than true fat usually represents only a very small percentage of the overall feed.

Procedure:
y y Take dry filter paper weigh it as A. Make thimble of it and put approximately 1gm moisture free sample in it and put in oven for 10 minutes. Then from oven put it in desiccators for 4 minutes and weigh it as B.

After 2 weighing put it into soxhlet assembly and make washings with ether until it becomes clear. Make one more washing after clearance. Take out the thimble and evaporate acetone by placing it in china dish at room temperature. Put in oven for one hour at 80 C. Weigh it as C.
Large amount of water soluble components such as CH2O, urea, lactic acid, glycerol and other may interfere with fatextraction. If present extract 2gm test portion on small paper in funnel 5times with 20ml water prior to drying for ether extraction
