a. Sole Proprietorship
b. Corporation
c. Partnership

a. Sole Proprietorship
- Is the simplest business form under which are can operate a business.
The sole proprietorship is not legal entity, it simply refers to a person
who owns the business and is personally responsible for its debts.
- Under this arrangement, a person personally conducts business under
his name or a business name. The simplest example to this would be the
sari-sari store found in almost every corner of our streets.

b. Corporation
- A form of business operation that declares the business as a separate,
legal entity guided by a group of officers known as the board of
directors. It allowed to enter into contract sue and be sued, an assets
and state taxes, and borrow money from financial institutions.
- A corporation, as defined under the Corporation Code of the Philippines,
is an artificial being created by operation of law, having the right of
succession and the attributes and the properties expressly authorized by
law or incidents to its existence.

c. Partnership
- A legal form of business operation between two or more individuals
who share management and profits. The federal government recognizes
several type of partnership. The two most common are general and
limited partnerships.
2. In your owns words, how vital are ethical standards to the formulation of
company policies-both internally and externally.
- Ethical standards is extremely vital to the formulation of company
policies-both internally and externally. By behaving according to the
ethical standards, companies can be trusted, profitable and; can keep
and attract more investors which can strengthen to drive to long lasting,
solid reputation and financial success.

3. Other than those cited in this book, give examples of companies whose
ethical advocacies proved to be beneficial to their corporate interests.
Explain how.
a. Patagonia – an American outdoor clothing company which altered its
entire supply to ensure environmentally friendly, safe working
conditions and provide excellent health insurance and gives paid
paternity and maternity leave for all of its workers. Because of this, they
have built a very strong reputation for being ethical that strengthen its
brand and gives conscientious customers more incentive to buy.
b. Starbucks – is committed to 100% sustainably sourced coffee. Starbucks
strives to always buy coffee at fair prices and ensure each step of the
coffee plating, harvesting, processing and purchasing is always done
ethically; and they are now recognized as the industry standard for
ethical sourcing and been a shining example for North America’s coffee
industry.
c. H&M – clothing retail H&M is committed to supply chain transparency,
they publish a list of their suppliers’ name and addresses on their
website and update it on a quarterly basis to ensure that they can be
held publicly accountable for the product of their suppliers. H&M also
has a responsible sourcing goal of using only 100% recycled or
sustainably sourced materials by the year 2030 and it makes them a
trendsetter and an ethical leader in clothing retail.

1. Differentiate the following:
a. Adulteration
- is the act of making food, drugs, devices and cosmetics worse in quality,
impure or altering its original form by adding materials or elements that
aren’t usually part of it. Adulterated food and cosmetics contain
poisonous and deleterious substance. Adulterated drugs and devices
contain in whole or in a part filthy, putrid or decomposed substance
which may affect its safety, efficacy or good quality.

b. Misbranding
- Is the labelling of a product so that it replicates another, more famous or
profitable, product or giving misinformation as to the actual content of
ingredients of the item.

c. Deceptive and False Advertising


- Is the marketing of information or visual content about the product that
is misleading and unrealistic which has the effect of deceiving
consumers.

Module 8 ETHICAL CONSUMERISM AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Evaluating Myself
1. What is the relationship between ethical consumerism and corporate social
responsibility (CSR)? Is the liaison already being left in Philippine economy
and commerce? Explain.
- Ethical consumerism communicates the demands of said consumers
while CSR communicates responsible corporate intentions to a
conscientious set of consumers and these two constructs represents
two ends of an economic communication system.
2. Other than the companies cited in this book, give others companies here in
the Philippines that have adopted economic sustainability in their
corporate objectives and strategies.
- Nestlé company assists farmers by propagating high yielding plantlets
and selling them at cost, enabling technology transfer through training
across the country, providing a support network of agronomists, and
strategically locating buying stations close to coffee areas so farmers can
sell directly to Nestlé. Nestlé raises standards for food safety and
employment practices. The company deals with global production and
competes around the world in an effort to achieve steady growth and
profit.
3. You are the CEO of a newly founded corporation, struggling to keep up with
the competition. Can you use CSR and the concept of the economic
sustainability in boosting the chances of your corporation? Drop your own
company policy or outline certain corporate measures, incorporating CSR
and economic sustainability. You can be as creative with the product or
service you are offering to the public.
