1. Scott works as a delivery person for a shipping company. The graph shows a linear model for his delivery
times on different days.

(a) What is the equation of the line, first written in point-slope form and then written in slope-intercept
form? Show how you determined the equation.

(b) Based on the linear model, predict how long it initially took Scott to deliver his packages.

2. The average cost of a compact car at a certain dealership over the last 10 years has ranged from $14,000
to $18,500. Suppose you were going to plot these points on a coordinate grid.

(a) What is a good scale to use for the y-axis? Explain your reasoning.

(b) What is a good interval to use for the y-axis? Explain your reasoning.

A) A good scale for y-axis would be 25,000 because I can see that in 10 years it went up by $4500 so I can
imagine it will go up in another 10 years and be a higher number
B) A good interval for y-axis would 10years because on the word problem it says “over the last 10 years” so
it lets me know that the maximum it goes

3. A group of workers is harvesting berries at a constant rate. An equation that represents the number of
baskets of berries the workers picked over a period of time, in hours, is y = 5x + 10.

(a) What are the slope and the y-intercept for the equation that represents the number of baskets of
berries the workers picked over a period of time?

(b) What are the rate of change and the initial amount? Explain the meaning of the rate of change and
the initial amount for the situation.

(c) Use graph paper to draw a graph representing the situation. Label the axes appropriately.

Answer:
A) The slope for this problem will be 5/1 and the y-intercept will be (0,10)
B) The rate of change is (0, 10) and (1,5) the initial amount was (0,10)
