Questions:

1. What are the major differences between the Indian and Chinese legal responses to child sexual abuse? Do
you think that underlying these differences in legal response are different notions of justice in cases of
sexual violence in India and China? (20 Marks)

2. Based on your understanding, what are the three major obstacles to the enforcement of laws against child
sexual abuse in India? Explain your answer with reasons. (30 Marks)

3. On the question of age of consent, India and China have shown divergent trends. While Indian law has
raised the age of consent in recent times, in China, it has been lowered. Discuss and compare the position
in both legal systems on the issue of age of consent. Discuss why a higher age of consent appeals to the
law makers and why this might be problematic in the Indian context. (30 Marks)

4. What is meant by mandatory reporting and why is it adopted by laws against child sexual abuse? Compare
the two models of mandatory reporting followed in India and China and state which one according to you
is more effective in preventing child sexual abuse. (20 Marks)
