ESS - Topic 2.

4 - Biomes, Zonation & Succession

Biomes
1. Define the term biome and include a map of all the biomes

2. Draw a table to summarise each of the following biomes:

o tropical rainforests
o deserts
o temperate forests
o tundra
o any one other biome, e.g. temperate grassland, coral reefs, Mediterranean, a local example

include:
- an outline of the distribution – latitudinal boundaries (map and word description)
- the structure and biodiversity, including representative species (flora and fauna) and visual
description - what does it look like
- relative productivity (give figures when possible)
- prevailing climate and limiting factors (limit climate to temperature, precipitation and insolation)

[In brief, for example, tropical rainforests are found close to the equator where there is high insolation and rainfall
and where light and temperature are not limiting.]

4. Include a bibliography. You must cite the reference in the body of your text.
