The Royal Mencap Society is a charity based in the United Kingdom that works with

people with a learning disability.

This association is of English nationality and its registred office is located in London.
The chief executif office is Edel Harris. This association is in the service, it offers to help
people with learning disabilities by finding jobs, finding leisure activities, providing
information...

This association was created in 1946 by Judy Fred, who is the mother of a child with a
learning disability, she therefore created and formed the national association of parents of
backward children, which later became mencap.

She wrote to the «nursery world» magazine to invite other parents to contact her. Many
responsaded to Judy to express their anger and grief at the lack of services for children.
Mencap has many goals, they want to improve people's attitude towards people with a
learning discorder, they want a better qualify of life for them, they want people with a
learning disability to be better connected to the community and would like these people to
be able to find real jobs on the job market.
