Every situation I come across as a Product Manager is different from the one before
or even after it.
From strategic planning to go-to-market launches, I manage everything that must be
done to build, ship, and maintain the product.
Each day is dynamic in its own way, which is part of what makes the work so exciting.
I personally feel product managers work is at the intersection of business,
engineering, and design. So, I try to find a balance across all the work that I do to support the product and move the business forward. When I started my career as a Product Manager in Verizon, pulling myself into too many directions and responsibilities such as strategy, research, Idea management, road mapping, Product development, and product performance made my head spin. Then I realized there is no one "right" way or protocol to work as a product manager and I did some experimentation to find what works best for me by planning my time effectively in an agile way. I established my routine dividing my day to dedicate the time only to one task at a time. I start my day with a hot cup of coffee and host regular core team meeting to get the development updates. Then I sit with technical architects to review the designs and perform UAT testing. Later I start writing User stories and meet with support team to find if any new bugs or any critical feedback from customers. Post lunch, I sit some time in R&D to adopt new features, functionality, or changes to the product’s user experience. Then I take some time to record key takeaways and Writing problem statements any my hypothesis for future Roadmap design. I advise sales team to set up any meetings with clients post 4 PM so that my above routine is not disturbed. I dedicate my time from 4 to 6 PM for client meetings.
My Product management style is a mix of Visionary and Democratic.
I give my team a clear direction and motivates my team by persuasion and feedback on task performance. At the same time, I motivate my team to provide input in the decision-making process and motivates them by rewarding team effort.
