INTRODUCTION

Linear programming (LP) is a technique for optimization of a linear

objective function, subject to linear equality and linear inequality
constraints.
Informally, linear programming determines the way to achieve the
best outcome (such as maximum profit or lowest cost) in a given
mathematical model and given some list of requirements represented
as linear equations.
APPLICATION OF LINEAR
PROGRAMMING
Given that the advertising budget is a constraint,
MATHEMATICS CLASS

the marketing manager can use the linear

programming technique to analyse the audience
MARKETING coverage of advertising based on the media that
MANAGEMENT are available. Additionally, it aids the sales
representative of a company in determining the
quickest path for his tour. By using it, the
marketing manager can calculate the best
distribution schedule for moving the product from
various warehouses to market locations while
ensuring that the overall transportation expense is
kept to a minimum.
Blending The blending problem, which arises when various raw
materials are combined to create a final product, can

Problem
also be solved using the linear programming
technique. Animal feed, diet issues, petroleum
products, chemical products, etc. are all areas where

blending issues can occur. In every one of these
scenarios, with constraints on inputs like raw
materials, the goal is to keep the cost of the finished
product as low as possible.
PROBLEM INTERPRETATION

SMK TAMAN FOREST HEIGHTS is organizing a anti-drug camp There are

total x female students and y male students are participating in the
camp.SMK TAMAN FOREST HEIGHTS charged RM 120 for male students to
participate and they charged RM 100 for female students. The numbers
of students is based on the following constraints.

I)The maximum number of students attented the is 80.

II)The ratio of the number of the female pupils is to male pupils is at
least 1:3.
III)The total fees collected is not less than RM5000.
a)Write three linear inequalities that satisfy all constraints
other than X ≥ 0 and Y ≥ 0

b)Using a 2 cm scale for 10 pupils on the X-axis and the Y-

axis, construct and label the region R that satifies all the
above constraints.

C)Using the graph obtained in (b),find

the minimum number of male pupils if the ratio of the
number of female to male pupils is 1:3

SOLVING PROBLEMS
INVOLVING LINEAR
PROGRAMMING 1)Identify the existing constraints
GRAPHICALLY
2)Determine the objective function
3)Define values for all the decision variable that
satisfy every constraints.
4)A value that satisfies the constraint is known as
a feasible value while the value that does not
satisfy the constraints is an infeasible value
5)If the problem has a solution, then all the
constarints will results in one common region that
is a defined by a feasible region.A solution in this
region is known as a feasible solution

PROBLEM SOLVING HEURISTICS

a)Write three linear inequalities that satisfy all constraints other than X ≥ 0 and Y ≥ 0
(A)Constraint I : x+y ≤ 80 Constraint II : X/Y≥1/3 Constraint III : 100X + 120y ≥5000

:3X≥Y

:Y≤3X

Using a 2 cm scale for 10 pupils

on the X-axis and the Y-axis,
onstruct and label the region R
that satifies all the above
constraints.
Y
Using a 2 cm scale for 10 pupils on the X-
axis and the Y-axis, construct and label
the region R that satifies all the above
constraints.

X
From the graph we can find the Y
total minimum male pupils who
attended the camp.For that we
just need to find the minimum
point of the female students and
male students.In this case (11,33)
(B) is the minimum point.So,the
minimum number of male
students will be 33
33

X
11
Checking the
answers
a)Check if all the equations
are formed correctly.
b) Check if all the
equations are plotted
correctly.
c)Check if the shaded
region is right or wrong.
d)Use logical thinking
Futher
investigation
Find the maximum
profit obtained if the
school takes 25% of th
total fees collected
100x+120y=k
100x+120y=1000
Optimisation in
linear program 120y=1000-100x
12y=100-10x
y=25/3-5/6x
OBJECTIVE FUNCTION
An objective function is known as
k=ax+by
From the y=25/3-5/6x we was able to
plot two point which is(0,2) and
(10,0)and we can draw the blue line.If
we place a ruler at the blue line and
move it along it will touch a point which
is known as the maximum point(20,60)
Find the maximum profit obtained if the school takes 25%
of the total fees collected.
From the graph we know that our maximum point
which is (20,60)
k=100x+120y
100(20)+120(60)
k=9200
Maximum profit will be
25/100x9200
RM2300
1)THE MAXIMUM PROFIT
OF SMK TAMAN FOREST
HEIGHTS RM 2300

Findings/
Discussions
BY DOING LINEAR PROGRAMMING SMK
TAMAN FOREST HEIGHTS CAN KNOW
THE TOTAL PROFIT WHICH THEY CAN
OBTAIN BY ORGANIZING THIS CAMP.
conclusion
*The quality of decision making is
improved by this technique because
the decisions are made objectively and
not subjectively.
*By using this technique, wastage of
resources like time and money may be
avoided.
