What is the meaning of the conquest of space? Definition: In terms of this development, the attempt to conquer space means that man hopes he will be able to journey to the Archimedean point which he anticipated by sheer force of abstraction and imagination. First human in space: e Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (9 March 1934 — 27 March 1968) was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space. Travelling in the Vostok 1 capsule, Gagarin completed one orbit of Earth on 12 April 1961. First animals into the space: e The first animal to make an orbital spaceflight around the Earth was the dog Laika, aboard the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2 on 3 November 1957. e Inthe 1940s and 1950s, the Soviet Union and US space programmes sent numerous species of animals into space, including monkeys, mice and dogs. However, these were suborbital flights, which meant the spacecraft passed into outer space before falling back to Earth without making an orbit. e Two dogs, Belka and Strelka, were launched into space on August 19, 1960 aboard the Soviet's Sputnik 5 spacecraft. They returned to Earth one day later, becoming the first living creatures to be launched into space and returned safely to the ground. This is some dates: October 4, 1957: Sputnik 1 The small Soviet satellite Sputnik 1 becomes the first object orbited by Man. November 3, 1957: Laika The Russian dog Laika, the first living animal to be sent into space, dies after a few hours aboard Sputnik-2. February 1, 1958: Explorer 1 The United States launches its first satellite, Explorer 1. e October 1, 1958: NASA Creation of NASA, the United States space agency. e December 17: American Monkeys First American sending of Monkeys into space, a rhesus named Able, born in North America, and a South American squirrel monkey named Baker. e January 4, 1959: flyby of the Moon The Soviet probe Luna-1 performs the first flyby of the Moon and becomes the first artificial "planet".
