1.

The following raw data were determined in a pair wise comparison of new motorcycle preferences in a poll of 100 people. When it was compared with a Yamaha (Y), 79 of those polled preferred a Modenas (M), 85 preferred a Honda (H), 59 preferred a Naza (N), and 67 preferred a Suzuki (S). When a Modenas was compared, the preferences were 15-Y, 77-H, 35-N and 48-S. When a Naza was compared, the preferences were 41-Y, 63-M, 65-H and 51S. Finally, when a Suzuki was compared, the preferences were 33-Y, 55-M, 52-H and 49-N. Using rank ordering, plot the membership function for most preferred motorcycle.

Suppose we want to sample a complex signal from a demodulator circuit and classify it into two sets, or . The sample points are x1 = ( 3,1) , x 2 = ( 2,2) , x3 = ( 1,1,5) and

x 4 = (1,2) as shown in figure below. If the first row of your initial 2-partition is [1 0 0 0], find the
fuzzy 2-partition after three iterations, i.e., find .(Use and 0.01).

3.

The fuzzy sets functions:

and

are all defined on the universe

with the following membership

(a) (b)

Sketch the membership functions. Define the intervals along the x axis corresponding to the -cut sets for each the fuzzy sets and for the following values of : i. ii. iii. iv. v.

and , Determine equivalent resistance of the circuit which is connected in series, where are fuzzy describing the resistance of resistors and , respectively, expressed in ohms. Since the resistors are in series they can be added arithmetically. Using the extension principle, find the equivalent resistance,

Req = R1 + R2
The membership functions for the two resistors are

and

5.

In a computer system, performance depends to a large extent on relative spear of the components making up the system. The speeds of the CPU and memory are important factors in determining the limits of operating speed in terms on instruction executed per unit size, for example,

Calculate the membership function for the phases: (a) (b) (c) (d) Speed not very fast Speed intensely slow Speed not very fast or very slow Speed very, very fast and not slow

6.

For the given fuzzy relation,

0.2 0.1 0.49 1 0.3 0.75 0.6 1 R= 0.9 0.3 0.78 0.5 1 0.71 0.3 0.9

0.9 0.6 0.5 0.2

find the cut relation for the following values: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e)

= 0.2 , = 0.4 , = 0. 5 , = 0.7 , = 0.75 ,
