Poem 3: Memory Poem
• Write a poem that captures a memory of yours-- however recent or distant you choose. In the
poem, try to move beyond simply listing the details of "what happened" in the memory, and push
past that to also explore why the memory is meaningful-- what is its significance? Why does the
memory still stand out to you? Why does it deserve poetic reflection?

Dragon*Con Forever
My nerdy pilgrimage to Atlanta
Is supposed to take place each Labor Day.
The girls are so hot, you’ll want a Fanta,
But this year, sadly, the con lost its way

For a decade now, I’ve returned each year

Cosplaying, drinking, and partying hard.
Vibrant memories of laughter and cheer.
I’ve even encountered many a bard.

We come every year, each for our reason,

Unique festivities catered to us.
We’ve all rejoiced in this nerdy season,
And wished Covid didn’t cause such a fuss!

Nothing in this world can last forever.

Next year’s con will be better than ever!

 I went with a sonnet again because of Shakespeare. I’m inspired by the over one hundred
sonnets he wrote that have garnered so much popularity since. By no means am I
comparing myself with Shakespeare, but I do appreciate the form he popularized. I’ll
gladly mix it up if you’d rather not a sonnet every time. I figure they at least beat haikus!
I’ve always liked their rhythm and flow.
