This modification is incorporated in echosounders with the following serial numbers and above: ED 161 no. 830 251 ED 162 no. 840 201 Echosounders with lower serial numbers should be modified if SIMRAD IR 201 Depth Indicator is to be connected. The modification is shown on the attached drawing. The spare space "TR 402" on MAIN CONTROL BOARD PB 161-103 may be used for the new emitter-follower transistor 2SC 1815. Remove the two blue leads from T8101-8 and leave them jointed and insulated. However, if, for any reason, alignment becomes necessary, the fol- lowing instructions will enable the set to be aligned to the factory standards, After adjustment of coil slugs or trimmer potentiometers, lock them in the following manner: Coil Slugs: by melting wax into the coil case using a soldering iron atiometers: by melting wax onto the side of the plastic covering with a soldering iron if wax has al- ready been used on the part, or by applying suitable locking liquid, d-c voltage measurements must be made with the cabinet und as the reference, except where noted. Ground con- tions from the test instruments must also be made to the cabinet except where noted. WARNING 3 ED-161 and ED-162 use a great number of CMOS integrated circuits which are prone to damage due to high static volt- ages or electric fields, To prevent possidle damage, the following precautions should be taken before handling such ic device: A) Ground yourself by touching a grounded metallic object. B) Nylon clothing should not be worn while handling. ©) Do not insert or remove them with the set switched on, B) When soldering, make sure that the soldering iron has no AC power line leakage, E) All CMOS IC's should be stored or transported in ma- terials that are somewhat electrically conductive, The plastic package supplied with replacement IC's meets this requirement, Retain such package for future use. Conventional plastic trays must not be used. WARNING: The transducer unit must not be operated in air, or serious damage will result, for which the manufacturer ¢an assume no responsibility. NOTE: AlL alignment procedures described in this manual apply to both ED-161 and ED-162, except where noted,PAGE: 1 - 2 MODELS: ED-161 & ED-162 34 2, AVR Adjustment This adjustment must be carried out with the input power supply voltage (across TB101 terminals 1 & 2) above 12V, Locate trimmer potentiometer VR801 and electrolytic ca- pacitor C803 on the AVR Board (PB161-127). Connect a volt- meter (or multimeter switched to voltmeter function) across ¢803, as shown in Fig. 1-1. Adjust VR801 so that the meter reads exactly 9 volts, This completes the AVR adjustment. NOTE: The same procedure applies to the 220VAC and 110VAC models, in which case, the input voltage across T5101 ter- minals'3 and 4 must be between 200 and 240 volts for the 220VAC model, between 100 and 120 volts for the 110Vac model for correct adjustment, 2. Scanning Speed Calibration Calibration of the stylus scanning speed will require the use of a Simrad echo probe or an accurate universal fre- quency counter capable of measuring pulse repetition periods] Adjustment Using Simrad Echo Probe Select depth range "A", Locate trimmer potentiometer VR103 on the Scan Speed Calibration & Pulse Length Selection Board (PB161-125 for ED-161, PB162-125 for ED-162). Connect the echo probe as per the instructions.
