1) What does Pym say about research (the results of a particular study)?
Pym says that research can find things we do not expect to find and that
you can also modify the research to get the results you want.
2) What example did he provide to prove it?
He proves it with an example of a study conducted in the US in the 1980s.
The study showed that it is not good to translate everything in the mother
tongue.
3) Which countries does he mention as having good results in language
learning (good learners’ proficiency) despite translation being used in
language learning?
He mentions Croatia and Finland as countries which have good results in
language learning.
4) Which countries have been sticking to old fashioned communicative
methods?
Spain and France have been sticking to old-fashioned communicative
methods.
5) What does he say about the concept/term of ‘translation’?
Pym stated that the term is not as important as its concept and that it is
good to give the chance to translation for improving language learning.
