LESSON

The term “shore” means outsourcing software developers from abroad. Most
companies preferred outsourcing because of its cost and time efficiency. BPO may
be categorized based on location of hiring and contracting.

Types of Outsourcing based on Location

1. Offshore Outsourcing-
Is hiring an outsourcing team from abroad or outside the company’s home
country to do remote and virtual work.

For example, some of the leading destinations of US market is from China, India,
Poland and Ukraine because of quality outsourcing development and low labor
costs. In offshoring, the client takes advantage of the skilled talents, low hourly
rates, uninterrupted workflow, and time-zone difference. Offshore outsourcing
needs proper coordination, communication and planning but the reduction of
expenditures and time are evident.
2. Nearshore Outsourcing-
is hiring an outsourcing team to a neighboring country with similar time zone or
minimal differences.

The cost base is still low and there are chances of good working relationship
between countries with similarities in culture and geographical proximity.
Communication is not entirely an issue in nearshore outsourcing and the major
cost savings adds up to its advantage.

3. Onshore Outsourcing-
is hiring an outsourcing team that is located in your home country.

The benefits of this outsourcing are having to work with the skilled people in your
country and the convenience of the local network industry. But onshore
outsourcing is costly because of the possibility of frequent office meetings and on-
site visits.
