Observable Diagnostics and Tests Test Engine Compression Pressure IMPORTANT: Compression pressures are affected by the cranking speed of the engine. lly charged and injection thoroughly cleaned. 4. Start engine and run at rated speed until it warms up to normal operating temperature. (From a cold start, operate engine 10—15 minutes at slow idle.) ‘Shut off fuel supply and remove fuel injection nozzles. ‘See CTM207 (Mechanical Fuel Systems) or CTM170 (Electronic Fuel Systems). Install JT01679" Adapter with O-ring (or D14550BA* Adapter) in injection nozzle bore, Use JT02017 Holding Clamp! to hold JT01679 Adapter in position. Install hold-down screw in clamp and tighten screw to 37 N (27 lb-ft). Attach JT01682" Test Gauge (or 0145478A") to adapter. NOTE: if using FKM10021 Compression Test Set, install 19.58—-90.578 Adapter (A) in injection nozzle bore with R73788 Nozzle Spacer (B) and two 92352 Nozzle Seals (C). Use holding plate (D) to secure. Then attach FKM10022 Test Gauge (E) to adapter, fe s a 3. Push throtle lever to "STOP" poslion. Turn crankshaft for 10—18 seconds with starter mator (minimum E cranking speed—180 rpm cold/200 rpm hot), 4, Compare readings from all cylinders. A 3.6 percent reduction in gauge pressure will result for each additional 300 m (1000 ft) rise in altitude. All cylinders within an engine should have approximately the same pressure. There should be less than 340 kPa (3.4 bar) (50 psi) difference between cylinders. 5.
