Algebra

is defined as a branch of mathematics which generalizes the facts in

arithmetic, uses numbers and letters that represent numbers.

Algebraic Expression

expression that contains one or more terms connected by plus or minus signs

Algebraic Term

either a single number or a letter of the product of several numbers or letters

Polynomial

an algebraic expression that represents one term or the sum of several term

containing whole number exponents on the variables

Degree of a term w/ one variable

● The degree of a term that only one variable is the exponent of that variable

Degree of a term w/ more than one variable

● The degree of a term that has more than one variable


● The sum of the exponents of the variable of the terms

Degree of polynomials w/ one variable

● Highest power appearing in any of the terms

Degree of polynomials w/ more than one variable

● The highest sum of the exponents of the variables in any of the terms

No variable means that the variable is raised to zero
