An article about energy issues in Kenya, an MIC in Africa, 2015

Biogas digesters help to solve energy issues in Kenya

Kenya has a high dependence on biomass for its energy consumption – in 2014 wood fuel
(firewood and charcoal) accounted for 69% of energy consumption. Between 2005 and 2014
the amount of wood used for cooking increased from 27 million m3 to 75 million m3.

The solution might, in part, come from the use of biogas digesters (shown above). The
biogas digesters use any bio-degradable material e.g. animal or human waste, garden
weeds and kitchen waste. They are highly efficient, have a life span of over 10 years and
come in varying sizes.
