Islamic Studies has been a part of Jamia's curriculum its inception in 1920 at Aligarh. Prominent scholars have Istemic Studies at Jamia, to name only « few: Maulana ed Ali Jauhar, Maulana Astam Jairajpuri, Maulana 35 Salam Kidwai Nadvi, Maulana Zainul Abideen Sajjad, Mohammed Mujeeb, Dr. Abid Hussain, Prof. Ziaul p Farooqui and Prof. Mushirul Haque. 1975 a separate multi-disciplinary Department of nd Arab-Iranian Studies was created, Following a a full-fledged Department of Islamic Studies came blished in 1988, ‘Department offers courses at Honours and Masters two compulsory papers in Isumiat and Indian Scanned with CamScanner from the early phase of Islam to the modern period. At Postgraduate level, the Department offers papers in History of Muslim Civitization, Islamic Religious Sciences: The Quran, Nadith, Figh, Tasawwuf, Muslim Sects and Kalaam, Contribution by non-Muslims to Islamic Studies, Muslim Philosophy, Islam in India, Muslim Reform Movements and Thinkers, Contemporary Muslim World, Major World Religions, Medieval Muslim Contribution to Science, Technology and Fine Arts and Proficiency in Arabic. The Department also offers Ph.D programme in the above mentioned areas.
