KRITIKA GOEL'S GUIDE TO

GROWI NG YO UR

TEN tips to getting more views and

being discovered on YouTube!
THREE YEARS AGO...
I was working at a corporate job. I'd been
working for 3 and a half years and H I, I' M
through every job I'd had, I just felt a
deep sense of dissatisfaction, like I was
KR ITI KA !
meant to be doing something more, and I
always wanted to be my own boss. Just
for fun I decided to start a YouTube
channel but I loved it so much that after 7
months of starting my channel (and with
only 800 subscribers), I decided to quit
my job to try doing YouTube full time. It
was a very scary decision to make as I
didn't know if this would work out or how
I'd make a living doing this.

MY LIFE NOW

FAST FORWARD TO TODAY...

I am a travel and lifestyle creator with over 300,000
people following me on YouTube and Instagram. I get to
travel the world and I now make more money than I did
at any of my corporate jobs. I love my work and I've
gotten to work with some amazing brands and tourism
boards, and I now live the life I once dreamt of having.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
Growing my YouTube
channel has helped me
live my dream life, and
TODAY, I'm going to
help you with ten tips
to grow your channel as
well.
HERE'S ME FROM
MY SPONSORED
TRIP TO CZECH
REPUBLIC!

@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 1: SHOULD YOU HAVE A NICHE?
I don't know about you but I hate sticking to a niche. I feel like
I have so many interests and a niche feels very restrictive. But
having said that, the best way to grow your channel is to get
very specific about your niche.

Think of it this way, if you come across a random travel video

NICHE you love and you go to that person's channel to check out
their other travel videos but you find videos about a lot of
other topics like shopping or comedy, it's unlikely you'll
subscribe. While their content may be good, the channel
doesn't seem to have what you're looking for.

Once you reach a certain point, your audience will also start
caring about other aspects of your life so you can switch up
your content then, but until then, try to stick to your niche.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 2: FIGURE OUT YOUR 'WHY'
If you've never thought about this before, it's very important
to figure out your 'why' or the reason you're starting or
running this channel. It takes time to find success on
YouTube and often, people give up before that happens. But
if you have a strong 'why', that will keep you going.

YOUR 'WHY' Here are some questions to ask yourself: Why are you
starting this YouTube channel? Why does your niche matter
to you? What is your goal with this YouTube channel?

While it may be tempting to have goals like 'hitting 100k

subscribers', that isn't going to give you things like financial
freedom and location independence (these were some of my
'why's) so try to stay away from vanity metrics and think of a
meaningful why that empowers you.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 3: PROVIDE VALUE
Very often, people message and tell me they're posting good
content but no one's watching their videos and wonder what
they're doing wrong. And I get you! Creating videos is a lot of work
and it sucks when you don't get the views you feel you deserve.

But the truth is, when you're starting out, people just don't care

VALUE IS KEY about you enough (sorry if that sounds harsh). So the best way to
win them over is by providing as much value as possible. Value can
come in the form of information, inspiration or just entertainment.

Each content piece you put up should be jam packed with value. If
you make travel videos, make them as good looking and as
enriching as you can, if it's a fashion video, make it useful, not just
you flaunting your outfits. Try to put yourself in the shoes of your
audience and create content accordingly.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 4: RESEARCH KEYWORDS
Before you even start creating videos, it's important to
do your keyword research within your niche.

When you're a small creator trying to grow, the best

way for you to be discovered by people is through

KNOW YOUR search. So if you create content that people are actually
searching for, that increases your chances of being
KEYWORDS found, and hopefully being subscribed to as well.

The best way to do keyword research is by using tools

like Google Trends or TubeBuddy. I personally use
TubeBuddy.The trick is to use keywords where the
search volumes are high and the compeition is low, so
you have higher chances of ranking for that keyword.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 5: USE A GREAT TITLE WITH KEYWORDS
Coming up with the title of the video is an art in itself. Not only
does it tell your audience what the video is about but it is also
one of the metrics YouTube's algorithm takes into consideration
before deciding how to rank your video.

A good title is: clear, provocative and attention grabbing (or

TITLE interesting). Your title should ideally have two elements to it:
one which uses the keywords and tells people (and YouTube)
what the video is about, and the other is an emotional element
that excites people to click and check out your video.

For example: Instead of writing 'New York City Travel Vlog'

maybe write something like 'Exploring the best spots in New
York City in 2 Days'. (This is just an example but this is where
keyword research comes into play).
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 6: FOCUS ON YOUR THUMBNAILS
Just like titles, your thumbnail is one of the deciding
factors whether or not someone will click and watch
your video, which is why it's important to make a good
first impression.

Sometimes I spend hours just making the perfect

THUMBNAILS thumbnail (you definitely don't have to spend hours on

this but my point is to make your thumbnails as
beautiful and impactful as possible).

I make my thumbnails on Photoshop but you could also

use websites like Canva and PicMonkey. If your video
doesn't perform as well as it does the first few days
after posting, maybe try changing the thumbnail to see
if it helps the video perform better.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 7: BE CONSISTENT WITH UPLOADS
Posting videos consistently is such a cliched advice everyone
gives but doing this helps you in two ways: this increases your
chances of a video going viral (obviously there are more chances
of one in ten videos to perform well than one in five videos), and
this also helps you with YouTube's algorithm (it's even

CONSISTENCY mentioned in the YouTube Creator Playbook).

Now this doesn't mean you have to post everyday and let the
quality of your content suffer. My advice would be to post at
least once a week, and post as often as possible without
affecting the quality of your content. So if you're comfortable
doing 2, that's great, but as long as you're posting at least one
or 2 videos a week, your channel will have the momentum it
needs to grow.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 8: OPTIMIZE FOR SEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) friendly content is the
type of content that's created in a way that helps the
search engine rank it high. In simple words, it's creating
videos around topics that people are searching for. So
as mentioned before, keyword research, titles and
thumbnails help with SEO.

SEO But other things you can and should do to improve your
SEO are:
- Having a keyword rich description (try to incorporate
all relevant keywords here)
- Tags: YouTube allows you to enter tags when you're
uploading a video. Use TubeBuddy to research tags and
include as many keywords and keyword phrases
- If possible, try to include keywords in what you're
@KRITIKA_GOEL
speaking in the video as well
TIP 9: HIGH WATCH TIME
One of the most important factors that YouTube's algorithm
looks at is the watch time, or the audience retention. This
basically means for how long someone is watching your video.

This is why it's important to create content that is highly

WATCH TIME engaging because as soon as there's a boring moment in the

video, people are bound to click off.

This doesn't mean you make long videos just for the sake of
getting more watch time minutes because if you make a long
video that's boring, no one's going to stick till the end. So the
key is to make engaging videos, even if they're 5-6 mins long.

TIP: You can find the watch time by going to your analytics and
looking for the Audience Retention.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TIP 10:CLICK THROUGH RATE
I've saved the best tip for the last! If you want to grow
your YouTube channel, CTR is one of the top metrics to
focus on. It's basically the number of people who click
on your video when they see it appear on YouTube.

For example, if your video gets 1,000 impressions and

CTR 100 people click on it, you have a CTR of 10%.

If your CTR is high, YouTube will start recommending

your video to more people (you can find the CTR for
each video under the Reach tab in your analytics).

Two factors which affect your CTR are your title and
thumbnail because they play such a big role in
determining if someone will click on your video.
@KRITIKA_GOEL
BONUS TIP: CONTENT IS KING!

GET CREATIVE! All of these tips I've shared will only work if your
content is good to begin with. So focus on creating
banging content and that itself will help you grow
your audience.!

GET CREATIVE WITH PROMOTION

Think of ways in which you can creatively promote
your content. Of course, share your work on your
social media platforms but it's a good idea to think
outside the box. Maybe collaborate with someone in
your niche,  or create pins to videos that may be
highly searched by people and post that on Pinterest
(Pinterest is the third biggest search engine and can
drive good traffic to your videos).
@KRITIKA_GOEL
TO SUMMARIZE...

CREATE AMAZING CONTENT DO KEYWORD RESEARCH

1 Pick a specific niche and create high quality 2 Create content intentionally rather than
content in your niche consistently. making random videos without research.

INCREASE WATCH TIME INCREASE CTR

3 Make extremely engaging videos so that 4 Use great titles and thumbnails to increase
people don't click off midway. CTR so your videos reach more people.
