Introduction

Many people in India pretend that only women in India face gender
discrimination and talk about it. The fact is that there is a lot of gender
discrimination against men in India. Perhaps, among all countries in
the world, men in India face the most gender discrimination. Also
several men in India face false rape or molestation charges by women.
Due to such false charges, the careers and lives of many men have
been ruined.

Much of the discrimination against men in India is done in the guise of

women empowerment. As you read this document, you will encounter
several examples of this and you will learn of several people in
authority pretending that women need empowerment while
discriminating against men, whereas the fact is that women in India
are already an empowered and pampered lot. There are several
women in India in positions of power. India has had a woman prime
minister for several years. It has also had several women chief
ministers and a woman president. A second woman president was
sworn in, in 2022. In that respect, India has had a far better record
than America which has not had a single woman president in its entire
history. India has the highest proportion of women pilots in the world.
Indian women are seen working in almost every field.

I have not read of any other country in the world besides India
providing a plethora of gender based reservations and privileges to
women. As you read this document, you will find plenty of examples of
these with evidence. And India does not provide any gender based
reservations or privileges to men.
In 1974, an Indian female model and dancer ran naked on a beach to
promote a magazine.

An Indian erotic star and model rose to media spotlight when she
promised to strip for the Indian cricket team if it won the 2011 Cricket
World Cup. India indeed lifted the World Cup; however, she did not
fulfill her promise due to public disapproval, but later claimed she was
denied permission by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
However, she did upload a video on her mobile app, where she is seen
stripping naked at India's Wankhede Stadium at night. In 2012, she
posed nude after Kolkata Knight Riders won the Indian Premier
League 5.

The above two examples show how much liberty Indian women enjoy.

With so much gender bias in favor of women, a plethora of

reservations and privileges for them and with so much liberty that they
enjoy, do Indian women still need empowerment? Certainly not.

Below are 3 headings, the first one narrates past instances of gender
discrimination against men in India, the second one cites current
instances of gender discrimination against men in India and the third
one named Future Threats cites instances where demands,
recommendations, decisions, efforts etc. have been made in the past
which pose future threats to men in India with regards to gender
equality. My religion does not teach people to make such distinctions
between men and women as have been described in this article.

Discrimination against men as well as other forms of discrimination

such as those along caste and religious lines occurs due to selfishness
in India. It is due to such selfishness that a major chunk of the
electorate in India has been voting for politicians who practice various
forms of discrimination. As a consequence, the political class in India is
full of self-seeking people of low integrity and feminists. Therefore
people of high integrity find it extremely difficult or impossible to
enter into politics. All this has been doing a lot of harm to India. God
will punish people who encourage and practice selfishness. All such
selfishness needs to end for India to be a better place for Indians.
Therefore, selfish people need to repent and turn to God and gain
wisdom. According to the Holy Bible, the fear of God is the beginning
of wisdom. To gain complete wisdom, one has to get a better
understanding of the fear of God. The Holy Bible if read and its
teachings practiced will surely help in achieving this goal. The Bible is
accessible online for free. I have read the whole Bible three times and
have gained a lot of wisdom from it.

Past Instances

1. Men were Made to Pay Higher Income Tax

For decades until about the year 2012, women in India used to be
charged a lower income tax than men. Why should a man and a
woman both of whom earn the same salary pay different taxes? The
only other country in the world that has ever practiced this kind of
discrimination is Pakistan. They no longer do so. In May 2017, the
Indian government had again planned to lower income tax for single
women.

2. Adultery

Until the year 2018, according to Indian law only a man could be
charged with adultery, not a woman. The law exempted women from
being charged with adultery.

Corona Virus Relief Package Denied to Several Categories of Men

During the corona virus crisis of 2020, the Indian central government
denied a relief package to unorganised sector workers such as dhobis,
rickshaw pullers, barbers, rural labourers etc. most of whom were men
whereas widows, women Jan Dhan account holders and women self-
help groups were offered financial relief. No financial relief was offered
to widowers and men Jan Dhan account holders.

This is cruel gender discrimination against men during a very severe

crisis.

Free Education for Girls

Why should only boys pay for their school education? Free school
education for girls in India is a sad example of discrimination.
Governments in the states of Telangana, Karnataka and Madhya
Pradesh have announced free education for girls up to post
graduation. The Punjab state government has announced free
education for girls up to doctorate (PhD) level. Does any other country
in the world do such things?

Girls in Bihar Being Paid on Completion of Higher Secondary and

Graduation

Girls in the Indian state of Bihar are paid Rs 10,000 for passing
intermediate examinations and Rs 25,000 for graduating. The Chief
Minister of Bihar, Mr. Nitish Kumar had in Sep 2020 promised that all
girls clearing higher secondary exams would get Rs. 25,000 and on
completing graduation, they would get Rs. 50,000. He said this while
addressing the media after the announcement of dates for the state
elections. This is an election gimmick and amounts to treating girls as
vote banks and is an instance of gender discrimination against boys.

Assam Government Offers Money and Free Scooters to Girls

In Jan 2021, the Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had
said every school-going girl student would get Rs 100 per day for
attending classes and that scooters would be provided to all girl
students who passed Class 12 examination in the first division in 2018,
2019 and 2021. This is brazen gender discrimination against boys and
misuse of tax payer's money. The Indian constitution does not permit
such discrimination on grounds of gender. This is not only
unconstitutional but immoral too. Shame on the Indian media for
calling this an initiative to promote education of the girl child. This is
no way to do so.

Reservation of Seats in Higher Secondary Schools for Girls

Seats have been reserved in the Indian state of Maharashtra for girls in
higher secondary schools.

Reservation of Seats in IITs for Women

In Apr 2017, in India, the IIT council decided to reserve seats for
women in IITs with effect from the year 2018. In 2018, 14% of seats
were reserved for women; in 2019 this was increased to 17% and to
20% in the year 2020. Also, separate merit lists are prepared for
women in the IITs to ensure that women fill up the reserved seats.

Reservation of Seats for Women on Public Transport Buses

Why should seats be reserved only for women on public transport

buses? In Bombay, there used to be 6 such seats on ordinary public
transport buses. That figure was raised to 12 with effect from Aug
2010. In Hyderabad and Chennai, in the 1990s, I found that half of
each bus used to be reserved for women. Some people in India argue
in favor of such gender discrimination saying that it is for the safety of
women. I would like to counter that argument as follows:

Serious problems require serious solutions. The fact that the problem
persists despite seats being reserved only for women proves that it is
not a serious solution. And if people think that reserving seats only for
women enhances the safety of women passengers, then why not try
this: Reserve seats for men too. Segregate the males from the females
to a great extent by dividing each bus into 3 parts – one for males, the
second for females and the third for males and females who wish to
travel together. Isn't that a better solution to the problem?

The best solution that I would suggest is to practice what developed

countries do. That is, let every passenger travel in comfort regardless
of gender by plying enough buses. Let the public transport authorities
charge a higher fare to make this happen as it will solve the problem
completely to every one’s satisfaction while also ensuring safety for
women. Now isn't that a serious solution? However, unfortunately, the
powers that be in India are neither approachable nor inclined towards
brainstorming on such issues. Had they been so, the issue of women
safety on public transport buses would have been well tackled long
ago.

Reading of the better solution described by me and of the best

solution suggested by me in the previous paragraphs should bring
you to the conclusion that reservation of seats only for women on
public transport buses is done with the ulterior motive of appeasing
women, is a compromise on the safety of women and is an instance of
gender discrimination against men.

Women Only Buses

Women only buses have been plying in some parts of India for a long
time. Feminists may argue in favor of it by claiming that it is for the
safety of women but I would like to counter that argument as follows:

Let's say in a city, on one hand we keep 60% of buses unreserved for
all to travel and reserve the remaining 40% of buses, some exclusively
for men and the rest exclusively for women in proportion to the
gender ratio of passengers (These figures may be altered after arriving
at a consensus). Then it is more or less guaranteed that no woman is
unsafe on that 40% of buses as people of only one gender can travel
on each of those buses. On the other hand, if buses are reserved only
for women but not for men, then we can have only a small proportion
of buses reserved exclusively for women for the simple reason that by
reserving more buses exclusively for women, you make fewer buses
available for men, thereby causing them a lot of hardships. In the
former case, we don't have the problem of fewer buses being available
for men and it is more or less guaranteed that no woman is unsafe on
that 40% of buses as people of only one gender can travel on each of
those buses. In the latter case, the safety of women is more or less
guaranteed only on a small proportion of buses. So, isn't the former a
better idea? No sane person can deny this.

Having said that, one cannot deny the fact that having special buses
only for women is appeasement of women, a compromise on the
safety of women and gender discrimination against men.

Special Trains for Women

There are special trains for women in India. They are called Ladies
Specials. Those trains are often seen carrying much less passengers
than the other trains. Men in some Indian cities usually travel in more
crowded compartments during peak hours than do women. Yet there
are special trains for women but none for men. Does any other
country in the world do such things? Feminists may argue in favor of
special trains for women by claiming that they are for the safety of
women but I would like to counter that argument as follows:

Let's say in a city, on one hand we keep 60% of trains unreserved for
all to travel and reserve the remaining 40% of trains, some exclusively
for men and the rest exclusively for women in proportion to the
gender ratio of passengers (These figures may be altered after arriving

unsafe on that 40% of trains as people of only one gender can travel
on each of those trains. On the other hand, if we have special trains
only for women but not for men, then we can have only a small
proportion of trains reserved exclusively for women for the simple
reason that by reserving more trains exclusively for women, you make
less trains available for men, thereby causing them tremendous
hardships and danger to their lives considering that men often travel
like sardines on trains in some Indian cities. In the former case, we
don't have the problem of less trains being available for men and it is
more or less guaranteed that no woman is unsafe on that 40% of
trains as people of only one gender can travel on each of those trains.
In the latter case, the safety of women is more or less guaranteed only
on a small proportion of trains. So isn't the former a better idea? No
sane person can deny this.

Having said that, one cannot deny the fact that having special trains
only for women is appeasement of women, a compromise on the
safety of women and gender discrimination against men.

Women Only Compartments in Trains

In India, trains have women only compartments called ladies
compartments but there are none for men. That is a very bad idea for
the following reasons:

1.      Despite having this privilege, many women travel by unreserved

compartments even when they are crowded while ladies
compartments are not crowded, thereby depriving men of seats and
places.

2.      As many women travel by unreserved compartments, often

women travelling by ladies compartments during late night or early
morning hours have found themselves alone in their compartments
and some of them have therefore been victims of thefts and assaults.

3.      Let's say in a train, apart from compartments reserved for other

categories of passengers, on one hand we keep 60% of compartments
unreserved for all to travel and reserve the remaining 40% of
compartments, some exclusively for men and the rest exclusively for
women in proportion to the gender ratio of passengers (These figures
may be altered after arriving at a consensus). Then it is more or less
guaranteed that no woman is unsafe in that 40% of compartments as
people of only one gender can travel in each of those compartments.
On the other hand, if compartments are reserved only for women but
not for men, then we can have only a small proportion of
compartments reserved exclusively for women for the simple reason
that by reserving more compartments exclusively for women, you
make less compartments available for men, thereby causing them
tremendous hardships and danger to their lives considering that men
often travel like sardines on trains in some Indian cities. In the former

for men and it is more or less guaranteed that no woman is unsafe in
that 40% of compartments as people of only one gender can travel in
each of those compartments. In the latter case, the safety of women is
more or less guaranteed only in a small proportion of compartments.
So, isn't the former a better idea? No sane person can deny this.

Due to the above reasons, one cannot deny the fact that having
reserved compartments only for women is appeasement of women, a
compromise on the safety of women and gender discrimination
against men.

Special Railway Ticket Counters for Women

From the year 2014 onwards, railway ticket counters have been
reserved for women. If people want gender equality, then people need
to be aware that this practice is against the principle of equality. Does
any other country in the world do such things?

Reserved Spaces for Women on Metro Trains

On every metro train in Bombay, in one of the coaches, half of the

coach is reserved for women. A ribbon is tied in the middle of the
coach to demarcate the reserved space. On every platform, at the
place where people board or disembark from that coach, men are not
allowed to stand. An employee of the metro company lingers around
that place to drive away men standing there. The employee carries a
whistle which he or she keeps blowing for the purpose.

Reservation of Seats for Women on Flights

Air India had decided to reserve 6 seats on every domestic flight for
women with effect from January 18 2017. With effect from Mar 8 2017,
the Indian airline SpiceJet reserved the whole of its 4th row for women
passengers on all its flights thereby discriminating against men on
International Women’s Day.

Reservation of Seats for Women on Managing Committees of

Housing Societies

Seats have been reserved for women on managing committees of

housing societies in the Indian state of Maharashtra since a number of
decades during which, every state government in the state has
continued with such reservation. This is another instance of reservation
for women while there is none for men in India. Does any other
country in the world do such things?

Front Seat Reservation for Women in Shared Taxis

Reservation of Auto Permits for Women

With effect from the year 2015, 5 % of auto permits have been
reserved for women for the Bombay Metropolitan region by the
transport department of the Maharashtra state government in India.
The reason for the reservation stated by the transport commissioner of
Maharashtra is to empower women and help people of economically
weaker sections of society. This reason sounds very absurd. A person
driving an auto is not an empowered person. And if the intention is to
help economically weaker sections, why reserve it for a gender instead
of for an economic class. Does any other country in the world reserve
such things for its women? This is clearly in violation of the Indian
constitution which guarantees right to equality and is against
distinctions made by the state on grounds of gender.

Reservation for Women in Paramilitary and Border Forces

In Jan 2016, the Indian central government approved reservation of

33% for women at the constable rank in two major central paramilitary
forces CRPF and CISF and also setting a 15% quota for Women in the
border forces BSF, SSB and ITBP.

Reservation of State Government Jobs for Women

The Gujarat, Bihar and Assam state governments in India have

reserved 33%, 35% and 30% of jobs for women. This will make it much
more difficult for men to get government jobs in those states. Many
families with only male working members will suffer on account of
such reservations and there will be increased joblessness among men
in those states.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation reserved 30% of

vacant posts for women in 2019.

In AIIMS Institutions 80 Per Cent of Nursing Jobs are Reserved for

Females

In 2019, the Central Institute Body of the All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS), in a meeting chaired by then Minister of Health and
Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan, arbitrarily decided to reserve 80 per
cent of nursing posts for female nurses. The decision was allegedly
taken with no nursing personnel being present as members of the
Central Institute Body. This decision is against article 15 of the Indian
constitution, which provides that the state shall not discriminate
against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex and place of
birth. Though article 15(3) of the Indian constitution states that
nothing in Article 15 shall prevent the state from making any special
provision for women and children, it is preposterous to invoke article
15(3) to justify such an irrational and arbitrary decision by pretending
that this privilege offered to women is a special provision, for the
following reasons:

1.      80% is a huge proportion.

2.      This decision is bound to result in joblessness among meritorious

men who would normally qualify for nursing jobs.

3.      It is also bound to result in less deserving women being selected

for nursing jobs, instead of more deserving men.

Therefore, this move is downright gender discrimination against men.

Requests by the AIIMS Nurses Union to the Indian central government
to revoke the reservation have fallen on deaf ears.

Reservation of Seats for Women in Local Bodies

In local bodies in India, a minimum of 33% of seats are reserved for
women. From the year 2015, the Indian government has been
considering making it mandatory for states to have 50% reservation of
seats for women in local bodies. Over the years, various states have
increased this quota to 50 per cent in panchayati raj institutions and a
few of them have extended it to even urban local bodies. Reserving
seats for women in local bodies is undemocratic. It will create a vicious
circle of bias against men in society.

The Western and Central Railway Authorities Ensured All-Woman

Staff

The Western and Central Railway authorities in India ensured all-

woman staff on their respective Matunga Stations in Bombay with
effect from Jul 2017 and Mar 8 2018 respectively.

The only way to have an all woman staff in a department or

organization or station is to shunt out all male employees from therein
and send out a message to all potential male job applicants directly or
indirectly that they are not wanted around.

For the Central Railway station, this initiative was taken by the general
manager of the Central Railway of India claiming that this was an
initiative of empowering women. Is this a way to empower women by
making a station out of bounds for male employees? I find this absurd.
If the general manager is so keen on empowering women, why didn't
he quit his post and offer it to a woman?

A Western Railway official described the move on the Western Railway

station as an endeavour to ensure women’s empowerment. This is an
example of discrimination against men in the guise of women
empowerment.

Mahim Bazar Post Office in Bombay was made an all Women One

The Times of India reported (See reference no. 1 below) this as the first
all women post office in Bombay. However as per the Hindustan
Times, this is the second one.

The Times of India news article says "In the era of women
empowerment, India is also focusing on guaranteeing equal
opportunities to women of the country." This is absolutely wrong on
the following two counts:

1. Setting up an all-woman post office is not women empowerment. It

is a case of gender bias against men as it implies denial of
employment opportunities to men in such places and transfer of men
already employed at such places. This is another example of gender
discrimination against men in the guise of women empowerment.
2. In this context, it is wrong to say that India is focusing on
guaranteeing equal opportunities to women. On the contrary, what we
have been witnessing is more and more instances of reservations for
women in India and in some instances, the setting up of all women
spaces such as this one whereas there is neither anything reserved for
men in India nor is there any all men space in it. In India, by and large,
we don't see denial of equal opportunities for women. Women are
free to pursue careers in any field including politics, sports, industry
etc. The authorities should therefore rather focus on true equality
wherein nothing is reserved for anyone.

Hindustan times has reported that this is the second all woman post
office in Bombay and that the male staff members of the Mahim
Bazaar post office have been transferred to other branches. Is this any
way to guarantee equal opportunities to women? It also quoted Swati
Pandey, post master general, Bombay region as saying that the move
will make women customers feel safer and comfortable about using
their services. Is she insinuating that the male employees who have
been transferred made her women customers feel unsafe? If so, she
should substantiate it. Otherwise, she has no moral right to make such
an objectionable statement. These feminists can keep fooling people
by making such statements but God is watching all this and will surely
punish them for all this at a time of his choice.

Women Only for Ola's E-Scooter Factory Which Is World's Largest

In Sep 2021, the CEO of Ola Electric Mobility Pvt Ltd., Mr. Bhavish
Aggarwal decided to employ only women at his new electric-scooter
factory in India, which is reported as the world’s largest.

Designating Ola's E-Scooter Factory Women Only amounts to

declaring it out of bounds for men seeking employment therein.

Where are those who give lectures on the advantages of diversity?

Don't those people have anything to say in this context? Or do they
just practice double standards against men? For this is not diversity, it
is uniformity, gender bias against men and anti-male bigotry.

Mr. Bhavish Aggarwal said "Enabling women with economic

opportunities improves not just their lives but that of their families and
indeed the whole community. Women's participation in the local
manufacturing industry stands at just 12% and for India to be the
world's manufacturing hub, we must prioritize upskilling and
generating employment for our women workforce," he said.

My take on this:

If enabling women with economic opportunities improves their lives,

and those of their families and the whole community, so does
enabling men. For India to be the world's manufacturing hub, we don't
need to keep men out of the workforce. If women's participation in the
local manufacturing industry stands at just 12%, it is by choice. No one
is restraining them. Hence Mr. Bhavish Aggarwal's statement is
ludicrous.

Indian Railways Emergency Helpline Numbers Exclusively for
Women

The Indian Railways has introduced emergency helpline numbers

exclusively for women. They frequently display one of these numbers
on the scrolling displays of their local trains with a message indicating
that it is for ladies which exposes their indifference to men. It would
have been nice if the numbers were meant for all passengers
regardless of gender. What if a man has an emergency and calls up
the number? Will he be told that the number is not meant for him
because he is not a woman? And if anyone tries to justify this by
claiming that only women can have emergencies or that a man having
an emergency is extremely rare, what does anyone lose if all
passengers regardless of gender are allowed to use it? Therefore if
men having emergencies on Indian local trains are not entitled to help
through these numbers, it amounts to treating men as second class
citizens.

Free Public Transport for Women in Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Punjab

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal introduced free public transport

bus rides for women with effect from Oct 2019. He added that this was
a “historic step for women safety and empowerment”.

That's a lie and self-contradiction which I am explaining as follows.

This man has been exempting women driven cars from his car even
odd scheme because, as he has been claiming, he does not want to
compromise on their safety implying that he feels women are not safe
on public transport buses. How then can he claim that free bus rides
are for their safety? That is why I call this a self-contradiction.

It is absurd to claim that free bus rides for women are for their
empowerment. It is just a case of gender bias against men and
amounts to treating men as second class citizens. This is another
example of gender discrimination against men in the guise of women
empowerment.

With Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal’s despicable precedent of

announcing free travel for women on public transport buses in Delhi,
following in his footsteps, the state governments of Tamil Nadu and
Punjab have followed suit. So we now have two states and one union
territory in India offering free bus travel for women. This does not
augur well for gender equality.

In Tamil Nadu, men availing of bus services are being allegedly

charged double the normal fare to allow free travel for women. As
compared to the aforementioned case of Delhi, in the case of Tamil
Nadu, the state government has gone one step further. A well-known
politician in the state, Mr. O. Panneerselvam condemned the state
government for allegedly collecting excess fare from male passengers
on buses operated by the state run transport corporation. In a press
statement, Panneerselvam said that in some areas, male passengers
are made to pay exorbitant fares to compensate for the loss due to
providing free travel to women passengers.

Feminists and the media in India have come out with absurd reactions
to this discriminatory move of providing free bus travel exclusively to
women. They are as follows:

Shreya Gadepalli, South Asia Programme Lead, Institute for

Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) says that free public
transport can empower women. This is one more example of gender
discrimination against men in the guise of women empowerment.

The Hindu BusinessLine media website says: "Free bus travel is a giant
leap forward to achieve gender parity." By this do they mean that if
people pay for bus travel regardless of what gender they belong to,
that is gender inequality? If this is what they mean, then they should
be aware that the rest of the world apart from places like Delhi, Tamil
Nadu and Punjab, does not charge bus fares on the basis of a person's
gender.

The New Indian Express reports that experts said that it will change
the lives of women and boost the economy of the state. By that
reasoning, if every Indian woman is offered everything free and men
are made to pay exorbitantly for everything to make up for the loss,
India's economy will be the best in the world.

According to a Punjab government statement, the Chief Minister of

Punjab had announced a free travel scheme for women in Punjab in
the state legislature on March 5 2021, as part of his government’s
efforts to ostensibly empower women and girls in the state. This is
another example of gender discrimination against men in the guise of
women empowerment.

Distinctions Made for Payment of Registration and Stamp Duty

for Property

Some states and union territories in India such as Assam, Haryana,

New Delhi and Pondicherry charge a higher registration and stamp
duty of up to 2% on men as compared to women who buy houses.

On May 11 2018, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti

abolished stamp duty on transfer of property for the state's women,
which implies that only men are expected to pay stamp duty there.

These are immoral practices and amount to practicing discrimination

Uttarakhand Became the First State To Give Co-Ownership Rights

To Wives In Husband’s Ancestral Property

If the Uttarakhand government would like us to believe that it has

done this in the interests of gender equality, it should have used
gender neutral words such as spouse and spouses rather than words
such as wives and husbands in the concerned ordinance. The fact that
it hasn't only goes to show that this is not about gender equality; it is
just one more privilege being offered to women in addition to the
long list of privileges that have been offered to Indian women in the

gender bias against men. You may also read the criticism expressed in

Section 437 of the Criminal Procedure Code is Gender Biased

According to section 437 of the criminal procedure code in India, a

person accused of a non-bailable offence can be granted bail by a
court if the person is under 16 years of age or is a woman or is sick or
infirm. This section therefore is gender biased against men and judges
have repeatedly stated in the past that being a woman is not sufficient
ground for seeking bail. Therefore this section needs to be scrapped.

Bar on Arrests of Women from Dusk to Dawn

According to a Supreme Court of India ruling, a woman cannot be

arrested after sunset and before sunrise. Apparently, the argument for
this is that women face the risk of harassment by police during that
period. However, I would like to express that harassment in police
custody can happen at any time of the day or night and there have
been several instances of police brutality against men and of men
being tortured and killed in police custody. Yet men have been kept
out of the purview of this bar on arrests from dusk to dawn.

Only Women Have Been Granted the Right Not to be called to a

Police Station

In India, women cannot be called to a police station for interrogation

under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code. If the police wish
to interrogate a woman, they are allowed to do so at her residence in
the presence of a woman constable and family members or friends.
This privilege has not been offered to men in India. Considering that
there have been several instances of police brutality against men and
of men being tortured and killed in police custody, this bias against
men cannot be justified.

Discrimination Against Men During Security Checks

Since many years it has been a common sight in India to see security
checks being done at malls, theatres and airports in the following
manner: Men are frisked openly whereas women are taken to an
enclosure for being frisked. I have travelled to other countries like U.S.,
Sri Lanka, China etc. and found no such enclosure in those countries.
In those countries, men and women are checked in the same way
openly.

The Domestic Violence Act

The domestic violence act in India is a law created for the protection
of only women from domestic violence. Had it been gender neutral,
there would have been no reduction in the level of protection it
offered to women while offering the same protection to men who are
victims of domestic violence. As the definition of domestic violence
has been broadened by including not only physical violence, but also
other forms of violence such as emotional, verbal, sexual, and
economic abuse and since many men can and have been victims of
one or more of these forms of violence, men too should have been
granted protection under this act. The fact that this has not been
done, smacks of gender bias against men. Moreover, this act allows
arrests to be made even without proof thus violating a basic principle
of justice viz. that an accused person is innocent until proven guilty.

The Sukanya / Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme

In India, the Maharashtra state government added more benefits to

the Sukanya scheme meant for girl children and it has been renamed
as 'Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree'. In accordance with the new scheme, the
state government will provide Rs 5,000 to families for celebrating the
first birthday of a girl child. Families with two girls will get Rs 2,500.
The government will deposit Rs 21,000 in a bank account after the girl
clears her Class XII exam (Rs 22,000 will be given to families that have
two girls). Under the Sukanya scheme, the state government was
supposed to deposit an amount of Rs 21,200 in the bank account for a
girl child born in a below poverty line (BPL) family. The new scheme is
applicable to above poverty line (APL) families. Parents will get
covered under an insurance scheme and the girl's grandparents (in-
laws of a child's mother) will get a gold coin worth Rs 5,000.

This scheme amounts to misuse of tax payer’s money for

discriminating against boys.

Maternity leave increased, Paternity Leave Ignored

The Indian central government increased mandatory maternity leave

from 12 weeks to 26 weeks in 2017 but has never made paternity
leave mandatory. Hence, most men in India do not get paternity leave.

The Indian Supreme Court Has Stated That Women Criminals Can

The Maharashtra Government Created a Dedicated Industrial

Policy for Women Entrepreneurs

In Dec 2017, The Maharashtra state government created a dedicated

industrial policy for women entrepreneurs under which women
entrepreneurs were offered capital grants, lower power tariffs, higher
interest subsides and grants for branding and promoting their
products. The policy had a mandatory clause that 50 per cent of the
employees in such units must be women for availing the benefits. Also
as per the policy, the government is to bear 50% of the cost of the
employer’s share of provident fund.

Why should the government have a dedicated industrial policy for

entrepreneurs belonging to one gender only and that too, using hard
earned tax payer’s money? One of the reasons given by the
government for this gender biased policy is that they want to
empower women. It is unfortunate that when women in India are so
empowered, people still want to pretend that they need
empowerment. The mandatory clause requiring 50% women
employees amounts to reserving jobs for women. That’s another
example of gender discrimination against men in the guise of women
empowerment.

Train Travel Concessions for the Elderly – Less Concession &

Higher Age Limit for Men

With effect from Feb 2019, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism
Corporation (IRCTC) has been offering concessional fares for elderly
citizens in India on trains across all the classes of special express trains.
As per the information then posted on the IRCTC website, senior
citizens above 60 years of age and female elderly passengers 58 years
and above can get concession in the fares on train tickets of Duronto,
Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Mail and Express trains.

While male senior citizens are eligible for a concession of 40 percent,

female senior citizens can avail 50 percent discount on the train
tickets.

So this railway company has been making distinctions between men

and women by offering men only a 40% concession and that too with
a higher age eligilbility of 60 years whereas they have been offering
women 10% more with a lower age eligibility of 58 years. This is a
clear case of gender discrimination against men.

PM Modi Launched the Amma Scooter Scheme in Tamil Nadu

As per this scheme, tax payer’s money is being used to subsidize 50

% / Rs. 25,000 for working women. That clearly means it is not for
men. The Indian Prime Minister Mr. Modi launched this scheme in Feb
2018 saying that it would empower women. This is definitely a scam
and another example of gender discrimination against men in the
guise of women empowerment. Anything done in the name of women
empowerment is not considered a scam by the media in India but
praised. Are we not in the 21st century, a century in which we hear and
read a lot of feminists complaining about discrimination only where it
is convenient for them? Why should taxpayer's money be used to
subsidize scooters for people belonging to just one gender?

The Uttar Pradesh Government Forces Educational Institutions to

Offer Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Girls, Technical
Education at Re. 1

In Apr 2022, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that girls

belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) community
in the state would get technical education at Re 1. The cost of their
education is to be borne by the respective educational institutions.

This is caste discrimination and gender discrimination against boys. It

is also immoral for the Uttar Pradesh state government to dictate
terms to educational institutions, that compel them to bear the cost of
the education of the beneficiary girls. If educational institutions are
coerced into bearing the cost of girls' education, the burden will
obviously be passed on to boys by the institutions to prevent losses.
What kind of gender equality is this? And what does the Uttar Pradesh
government expect educational institutions to do with the measly Re.

This discriminatory move was termed by the technical education

minister of the UP state government, as women empowerment and an
attempt to make India self-reliant.

practiced against men in India. There have been demands for setting
up a national commission for men. Most of those demands have been
falling on deaf ears. In 2018, Mr. Harinarayan Rajbhar, a member of
parliament from the ruling party demanded the setting up of a men's
commission in India. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Rajbhar
said the government has constituted several commissions including
those for women, but none to deal with the issues and problems faced
by men. He said that many men are suffering at the hands of their
wives and several of them are locked up in jails. He demanded that the
government set up a men’s commission to resolve their issues and
problems. Hearing this demand, the entire house burst into laughter.
There were five women members present in the house at that time.
They too were seen smiling. This shows the attitude of members of
parliament towards men's problems.

Men’s Day Ignored in India

International Women’s Day is widely celebrated in India every year on
Mar 8. It is believed that this day is observed to make people aware of
discrimination against women. However, in India the occasion is used
to offer women chocolates, special discounts and privileges which are
discriminatory against men. The Catholic Church in India, besides
observing International Women’s Day, also observes Sep 8 as Girl
Child Day every year. However, it does not even make a mention of
International Men’s Day.

Men’s day is almost completely ignored in India. Leave alone getting

discounts or privileges, men in India hardly get any good wishes on
that day.

Future Threats

Reservation of Seats for Women in Parliament

Indian politicians have been trying hard to reserve 33% of seats for
women in parliament. Reserving seats for women in parliament is
undemocratic. If this plan is implemented, in the future, there will
attempts to increase this quota. We have already heard of a demand
to increase this percentage to 50. Doing so will create a vicious circle
of bias against men in society.

Increase in Reservation of Seats for Women in Local Bodies

From the year 2015, the Indian government has been considering
making it mandatory for states to have 50% reservation of seats for
women in local bodies. This will worsen bias against men in society.

Demand for 30% Reservation for Women on Boards of Listed

Companies

In 2015, Maneka Gandhi, a former minister in the Indian central

government demanded a 30% reservation for women on boards of
listed companies. This is another instance of a reservation demand for
women while there is none for men in India.

Wives to own 50% of their Husband’s Property

In 2012, the Indian central government was considering an

amendment to marriage laws which would give a married woman, in
case of divorce, half a share in her husband’s residential property. The
amendment was approved by the cabinet.

A law was also being considered by the Maharashtra government in

the same year for automatic ownership of 50% of a husband’s
property by a wife.

In both cases, the husband was not to have any such right over his
wife’s property.

Compulsory Payment of Salary by Husbands to Wives

A law was proposed in the year 2012 by the so called ministry for
women and child development that it be made mandatory for
husbands to pay their wives salary for doing household work. The
proposed law did not expect wives to pay their husbands for doing the
same.

CABE Decided To Recommend Free & Compulsory Education for

Girls

In its Jan 10 2018 meeting in Hyderabad, The Central Advisory Board

of Education (CABE) in India decided to recommend free and
compulsory education for girls till postgraduate level. Making such a
recommendation amounts to brazen advocation of gender
discrimination against boys. After all why should only boys be
expected to pay for their education up to post graduation and girls
get all of it free?

The Supreme Court Wanted to Penalize Men Reneging on

Promises of Marriage

In Jul 2018, the Supreme Court decided to examine whether civil

liability could be fixed on a man to pay compensation to a woman for
reneging on his promise of marriage after living together. This raises
the question as to why should only the man in a live-in relationship be
penalized if he does not fulfill his promise of marriage. What if the
woman breaks a similar promise made to the man?
