4 TYPES OF

SALAD
APPETIZERS

These are light and can, therefore the appetite without


giving a feeling of fullness. Examples of appetizers are
slices of fruit (orange, apple, grapefruit, or pear), vegetables
(carrots, celery, cucumber, or mushroom), and seafood
cocktails (shrimps, lobsters, crabmeat, or fish).

FRUIT SALAD
Fruit Salad is a general term referring to a fruit dish. This
dish is typically composed of an assortment of fruits served
as is or combined with different types of sweet liquid and
table cream. This can either be served as an appetizer, a
side dish, and as a dessert. In the Philippines, fruit salad is
considered to be more of a dessert rather than an appetizer
or side dish. The Filipino version of the fruit salad requires
the use of condensed milk and table cream which makes
the dish rich and sweet.
INGREDIENTS

1 can large fruit cocktail


1 cup fresh strawberries cleaned and cut in half lengthwise
1 cup blueberries cleaned
3 pieces kiwi cleaned and sliced into bite size pieces
3/4 cups nata de coco
14 ounces condensed milk
8 ounces table / medium cream or all-purpose cream

INSTRUCTIONS

 Drain the juice from the fruit cocktail and transfer the canned
fruits in a bowl.
 Combine the fruit cocktail, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, and
nata de coco then toss lightly.
 Add the condensed milk then mix lightly. Be extra careful so that
the fruits will remain intact.
 Add the table cream / medium cream then mix again. Make sure
that the cream is properly distributed amongst the fruits.
 Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
 Serve Chilled. Share and Enjoy!
ACCOMPANIMENTS

These are side dishes to the main course in a dinner. They


are served in moderate portions and are accompanied with
dressings (Caesars, Thousand Island, or French). They
include mixed leafy greens, carrots, onions, beets, turnips,
cucumbers, corn kernels, cheese, and a number of other
vegetables and fruits.
GROUND PORK MENUDOINGREDIENTS

2 Tablespoons Olive oil 1 cup, beef broth (or water)


6-8 Garlic cloves, minced 2 red skin Potatoes, peeled and diced
1 medium Onion, chopped 1 medium Carrot, peeled and diced
2 Plum tomatoes, chopped 1/2 red Bell Pepper, seeded and diced
1 lb ground Pork Ground Black Pepper, to taste
½ cup Raisins 1/3 cup Ketchup* or Tomato Sauce
A little brown sugar, to taste 2 Tablespoons, Fish sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

 Heat the oil in a deep pan. Sauté garlic and onion until aromatic.
Stir in the tomatoes and cook until soft.
 Add the ground pork and cook until brown. Season with ground
black pepper and fish sauce (or salt, if preferred). Don’t be turned
off by the smell of the fish sauce, as that would evaporate as the
mixture cooks. When the pork has browned pour in the broth or
water and bring to a boil.
 Add the potatoes and carrots and simmer covered until the
vegetables are slightly tender. Add the bell peppers and raisins.
Continue to cook until all the veggies are tender but not mushy.
 Pour in the ketchup or tomato sauce. Stir to mix everything well.
If you find the sauce to be a little tart, sprinkle a little brown
sugar to balance the flavors. Adjust the seasoning to taste. Serve
with boiled eggs or quail eggs (if available) and jasmine rice.
Main Course

These can serve as a one-dish meal as it contains


practically all essential nutrients-from protein to
carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, and fiber. It is
a combination of meat, poultry, seafood, fruits and
vegetables, dairies, and gelatin. Example are macaroni
salad, fruit salad, fish salad, stuffed green peppers, and
stuffed tomatoes.

MACARONI SALAD
Macaroni salad is a type of pasta salad, served cold made
with cooked elbow macaroni and usually prepared with
mayonnaise. Much like potato salad or coleslaw in its use,
it is often served as a side dish to barbecue, fried chicken,
or other picnic style dishes.
INGREDIENTS

3/4 lb. elbow macaroni


1 pack Lady's Choice Mayonnaise 220 ml
1 can fruit cocktail 15 oz.
12 oz. pineapple chunks
1 can condensed milk 14 oz.
3/4 cup raisins
3/4 cup kaong
3/4 cup nata de coco
6 oz. cheddar cheese cubed
2 quarts water

INSTRUCTIONS

 Cook the macaroni by boiling water in a pot. Add the macaroni.


Stir and cook for 7 minutes. Drain the water and arrange
macaroni in a large bowl.
 Add fruit cocktail, pineapple, kaong, nata de coco, cheese, and
raisins. Gently mix all the ingredients.
 Pour condensed milk and then add Lady's Choice Mayonnaisse.

Fold until all ingredients are well blended.Cover the bowl and
refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
 Remove from the fridge and serve. Share and enjoy!
DESSERT SALADS
These salads are generally sweet because they are served in
the last course of a meal. Thus, they are considered
desserts. They are composed mostly of fresh, canned, and
processed fruits; molded gelatins of varying flavors; or
mixed with fruits, nuts, and dairy products.

BANANA SPLIT
A banana split is an American ice cream-based
dessert consisting of a peeled banana cut in half
lengthwise, and served with ice-cream and sauce
between the two pieces. There are many variations,
but the classic banana split is made with three
scoops of ice cream.
INGREDIENTS

1 medium banana, peeled and split lengthwise


1 scoop each vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream
2 tablespoons sliced fresh strawberries or 1 tablespoon strawberry
ice cream topping
2 tablespoons pineapple chunks or 1 tablespoon pineapple ice
cream topping
2 tablespoons whipped cream
1 tablespoon chopped peanuts
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
2 maraschino cherries with stems

INSTRUCTIONS

Place banana in a dessert dish; place scoops of ice


cream between banana. Top with remaining
ingredients. Serve immediately.
